Principal Notes:
Dear Cimarron Family,
It’s hard to believe it’s time for Spring Break! This will be a great time to recharge and relax. Then, we will be back ready to finish this year strong! We have much to do, and as always, we look forward to continuing our learning journey with students!
Thanks to those families who attended our Celebration of Learning! This has been a great way for students and staff to connect with families as we share the outstanding learning at Cimarron. Your attendance at this event cements our students’ belief that their education is important by allowing them to see the impact of their learning. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to be involved and present in your child's education. This is a team effort, and you are an important member of the team!
As we work our way to the end of the school year, we once again will be involved in testing and assessing your student's academic growth. Students have been working diligently to grow academically and socially this year, and these assessments are a way for us to measure their learning and our teaching. You can help your student make the most of our Spring Testing Window by asking questions about their learning, ensuring that they are getting adequate sleep, and encouraging plenty of exercise and fresh air. We extend our thanks in advance for your support.
Thank you,
Chris Zimmerman

Testing at Cimarron
99.5% of Cimarron students will be taking the State test. We appreciate the support of the Cimarron community in keeping the excusal numbers minimized.
During testing, students will be asked to turn off their cell phones, so if you need to contact your student, please contact the main office. Please schedule appointment to avoid testing dates.
Standardized Testing:
Prepares students for future tests - college entrance exams, PSAT, SAT.
Allows for students to develop grit - the resiliency of learning and assessment.
In various formats prepares students for future careers that require testing.
Results give individual information to support growth and learning for students and their families.
Results have an impact in a programmatic sense for individuals and groups of students.
Collective results reflect a score for Cimarron Middle School overall. This score has implications at the state level for our school and is reported to the public.
Encouraging Kindness
Kindness is treating others with respect and compassion. When a person is kind it helps create the basis of a healthy and productive relationship. While many believe that the middle-school years are all about insensitive adolescents with selfish tendencies, this is also a time when many young people begin to see the value of being kind to others. Sometimes middle-schoolers need to be reminded that they prefer to be treated kindly so they can expect that others would prefer the same treatment. The emotional highs and lows of middle school and adolescence may affect the way your child applies kindness to her interactions and relationships, and it is important to continue cultivating and practicing this essential social skill.

Immunization
Many immunization updates are necessary by the time school starts in August. During your child's well visit is a great time to check with your primary care provider to update immunizations.
For teenagers, your primary care provider may recommend several immunization series that are not required for school but may be recommended to promote health and wellness for adolescents.
For all students with personal and religious exemptions, parents will need to re-sign the CDPHE exemption form or submit a statement of exemption in August. Please see the DCSD Health Service website and Colorado Tri-County Health/CDPHE immunization websites for more information and for exemption forms.
