Veteran's Day
Several of you have shared ways you are acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of our servicemen and women. Please make sure that you take the time to have your students engage in conversations and activities to commemorate this important day. If you have student written letters I am happy to deliver those to the VA for you.
Panorama survey
You should receive an email later today with information about the Panorama survey you, parents, and students took last spring. You will be getting access to your own data. I do not have access to your individual teacher data. However, if you would like to share it with me, discuss surprises, validations, and/or concerns I am happy to support you. Prior to our Thanksgiving break I will share out our building survey data.
SPS Foundation/United Way
Please take the time to watch this Thanks4giving video to learn more about how you can support United Way and the Foundation.
The campaign window is Nov. 8-21.
The district’s goal is $75,000.
The campaign has two components: employee contributions and opportunities for students, parents and community members to participate.
- There are three ways for you to give: text, website or online payroll deduction authorization.

Literacy Connection
How can you be intentional in your reading instruction? As you plan your guided and fluent reading groups, it is important for you to be intentional with your focus. Now that you have formed groups and determined reading levels of students, you have specific skills and strategies you can target at each reading level. The Characteristics of the Reader and the Behaviors of Readers Level A-Z can be utilized as checklists or as a list of teaching points to make your instruction more intentional.
Once you feel that groups have mastered the skills for a specific reading level, those students may be ready to move up to the next reading level. You can use Reading A-Z Benchmark Passages and Reading A-Z Benchmark Books to see if students are ready to move to a new set of skills. These resources can help you evaluate growth and check to see if the students are on an appropriate reading level.
