Kolb Eagle Flyer
November 2018
Message from Principal Clara Lee
Dear Kolb Community,
It has been my honor and privilege to come to Kolb as your new principal. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you in the mornings during drop-off, Donuts with Dad, Trunk or Treat, and many other school meetings.
I am grateful that Kolb was in the hands of 2 very experienced administrators who have set things in motion for us to start off the year. Mrs. Heisser has been invaluable in setting up meetings and plans for our school so that we can meet important deadlines.
As you may have read through the DUSD announcement, I have experience in various school districts including Los Angeles, San Jose and Fremont. I am thrilled to be able to work in the community in which I live rather than commuting from afar. Many of the principals whom I have admired over the years were from the community in which they served, and I believe it was a critical component to their success and longevity.
I look forward to the strong partnership and collaboration with you and the staff to make Kolb the best school for our students. It has been my experience that wonderful ideas come from our students and families, so I look forward to listening to and discussing what you would like to see for your child at our school. Please come to the “Pastries w/Principal” at the end of November, so that I can get to know more Kolb parents and families. I will also be popping in to some parent conferences so that I can meet you. See you soon!
Sincerely, Clara Lee

A huge Thank you to Amy Bowles and the Kolb PFC for our Trunk or Treat event!
Have you ever wondered how Kolb Elementary got its name??
In 2011 the Dublin Unified School District named a newly built elementary school in honor of Harold William Kolb. Born in 1900, Mr. Kolb, known as Jim or Jimmy to his friends, grew up in Dublin when it was a farming community. He attended the two-room Murray School when it was the only school in the district. He, his brother, their mother and his father worked on the farm for many years. The farm included much of the land between what is now Foothill High School and Dublin Blvd. He and his wife Elsie Kroeger married in 1920 and started to raise a family that grew to three children. They also attended school in Dublin. In 1937 he ran for, and was elected, a Trustee to the Murray School District. Over the next 20 years he became one of the longest serving school trustees. Years later, after the Murray School District became part of the Dublin Unified School District, the Board of Trustees honored his long service as an advocate for education by naming Harold William Kolb Elementary School after him.
You can visit Harold Kolb’s house at the Dublin Heritage Park & Museums.

Is your child going to miss 5 - 10 consecutive days of school??
It is imperative that your student attends school daily. Lost classroom time is difficult to replace. However, if you find that you need an extended absence during the school year, you will need to request an Independent Study Contract. Independent Study is limited to once per school year and for a minimum of 5 school days / maximum of 10 school days. Requests should be made in the Kolb Office at least 10 school days prior to the absence. For more details please see the link below!
