NEWSLETTER - TERM 3, WEEK 9
ST PAUL'S PRIMARY SCHOOL, MOUNT LAWLEY
Lord Jesus, we come to your sacred table to nourish ourselves, not with bread but with Yourself, true Bread of eternal life. Help us to recognise and celebrate your presence everyday in our lives. Walk with us on our journey of faith as you once did with the disciples on the road to Emmaus.
With only 2 weeks left of Term 3, this is the last newsletter for the term.
The year is flying by and as we approach the final term of 2023, there are lots of exciting things coming up. Term 4 will see things like Edu Dance lessons start again, our Year 6 surfing lessons, the P&F quiz night and colour run, our Year 3s First Reconciliation, Year 6 Graduation and of course ... the St Paul's Christmas Concert! Some important dates are at the end of this newsletter so please make sure you put them in your calendar.
Please note that Monday 9 October is a student free day so Term 4 begins for students on Tuesday 10 October. Our staff will be having a day of reflection on the Monday, facilitated by Father Mariusz. This is an important part of our formation and work in Catholic education
The end of the year has us approaching the changes that lie ahead. My family have been busy sorting everything out to sell our house so we can move for our new adventure next year. It's amazing how much stuff you find! The process for appointing a new Principal for St Paul's is underway and the community will be informed in due course after the appointment has been made.
What's been happening at St Paul's?
Our Year 4 First Communion candidates received the Sacrament for the first time over the weekend. It was a lovely celebration and a very special moment for the candidates. Father Mariusz celebrated Mass and Father Tim had his amazing choir singing. We are blessed here at St Paul's to have such nourishing liturgy! We'd like to express our thanks to our generous Year 3 parents, headed by the class reps Liz and Viviana, for all of the work they did with putting on the afternoon tea for everyone. It was amazing and very memorable for the candidates and families!
Father's Day Breakfast & Dad's Day Out
Our Father's Day Breakfast was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and thank you in particular to our P&F volunteers who put on the event for our community. We hope our St Paul's dads had a great day!
Our P&F are also hosting a Dad's Day Out this weekend so please see the flyer here to get involved! Thanks to Junior for organising this!
Our Learning Walks are on Tuesday afternoon. You should have received an email with a link to book into a session. This is a great opportunity to share in your child's learning so please make every effort to come. Our amazing Art, Science and ASPIRE teachers will also have some stations set up for you to have a look at so please take the time to visit these when you have finished in your child's classroom. We look forward to seeing you there!
Exciting New Initiative
With the invaluable support of our School Advisory Council, St Paul's is ready to launch an exciting new initiative in Term 4. This initiative will see St Paul's partner with Perth Glory! Our Year 4-6 students are in for a real treat as we welcome players from Perth Glory to work with our students through both on-field and in-class sessions. The program will run for 6 weeks and this is the first time Perth Glory has developed a bespoke program of this nature for any primary school in WA. Special thanks to Chris Perera for his support in getting this happening. We are very excited about this initiative, so stay tuned for more details!
All going well over the next few weeks, our building project will progress to the next stage over the holidays. This will see a few changes around the school.
- The outdoor area under the new section of the build will be accessible and our students will be able to use the original toilets that were blocked off by the build instead of having to use the toilets in the Barbier Hall.
- Our Year 6 class will move into the new learning area which is part of the first stage of the build, our Year 5 class will move to the Lookout and our Year 4 class will move into the glass room in the library.
- The upper learning terrace will still have work happening so the new staircase will be blocked off. Access to the learning area will be via the existing staircases outside the Year 1 classroom.
- The fenced off area on the courts will be moved to be in front of the library.
- The stairs in front of the library and in front of the doors to the hall will be blocked off so we will use the other stairs next to the grass.
- The library will be accessed through the door at the back of the building.
- Work will be undertaken to remove the staircase currently outside the Year 2 classroom over the holidays.
At the evening last term that we ran on the upper primary experience at St Paul's, I presented some images showing an impression of what the new areas will be like and I have been asked by some people who missed this to see the images. The images were obviously generated in the initial stages of the building project and some changes have had to be made, however, they give an idea of what to expect. You can see some of the images here.
Have a great week!
