Stock Dog Team
The Stock Dog Team provides students with the opportunity to develop well-trained stock dogs to benefit farmers, ranchers and students by promoting law stress and humane handling of livestock. Both student handlers and their dogs gain expert knowledge and experience through practices, clinics and competitive trials.
Purpose of the Organization:
- To foster, promote and develop the use of stock dogs for the benefit of farmers, ranchers, students and other livestock owners and stock dog handlers.
- To foster, promote, and facilitate humane handling of livestock by educating farmers, ranchers, students and other livestock owners and stock dog handlers in the proper use of well-trained stock dogs.
- Create an atmosphere of low stress livestock handling by conducting educational events including clinics, practices, trials and demonstrations.
- Introduce students to stock dog competitions by sponsoring sanctioned trials, encouraging sportsmanship, patience and a willingness to improve.
- Allow the students to gain from the expertise of individuals or groups working directly with stock dogs and livestock handling, and to develop a network of mentors with a goal toward improvement for humane handling of both dogs and livestock.
- Encourage students to be life-long learners in their areas of interest.
- Encourage students to be members of the local Outback Stock Dog Association and the National Cattledog Association.
- To provide a venue in which the purposes of the organization may be fulfilled.
- To provide for fund raising and financial support to accomplish our stated purposes.
- To provide education in daily care, preventative veterinary care, and conditioning of the working dog.
