It was FUN to surprise Mrs. Taylor on her nomination for the Troy Teacher of the Year on our half day. We have so many awesome teachers at Smith and Mrs. Taylor sure deserves some of the spotlight. We wish her luck as she advances to the next level.
QUARTER 3 STARTS MONDAY
Quarter 3 / Semester 2 begins on Monday, January 22. Seventh and 8th graders received new schedules this past Thursday for their new elective classes. If you did not receive your schedule, you can view your new classes on PowerSchool and Schoology beginning Monday morning.
Quarter 2 grades will be available to view on PowerSchool, beginning January 30.
2024 AMC - Math Competition
This is still space available for students interested in participating in this year's American Math Competition. The event will take place after school on January 24. Please reach out to Ms. Zheng if you would like to participate: zhengwl@gmail.com. Limited space available.
2024-2025 WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP
There will be a parent meeting on January 24 at 6:30pm for those 7th grade parents interested in hearing more about the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. that will take place in February of 2025. Please use the following link to join in the Teams meeting:

DISCOVERY KITCHEN COOKOFF COMPETITION
We are excited to share a new program that is being held on Thursday, March 14th in the Athens Cafeteria at 4:00pm. Our Food Services department will be hosting a cooking competition that is open to all middle school students.
Our middle school students form groups of 3 or 4 and they can submit an application with their favorite cultural recipe. We will select the groups at the end of the month and they’ll have the chance to prepare their recipe in front of a group of judges. We’ll provide the groups with all the All the necessary tools and ingredients will be provided, as well as help of our Food Service Chefs.

JANUARY - MARCH DATES
All 6th - 8th grade students are welcome to attend Homework Help Club, meeting most Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Mrs. Bell supervises the sessions and high school students from Troy High and IA East will be available to provide tutoring and homework support.

Special Olympics Unified Sports brings people together through team sports and works to promote social inclusion. This is a great opportunity for students of all ages and abilities to come out and see what Unified Basketball is all about!
TROY HIGH BAND BOOSTERS INFORMATIONAL OPEN HOUSE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 25TH 7PM
The Troy High Band Boosters would like to invite 7th and 8th grade students (and their parents/guardians) to attend their Informational Open House on Thursday, January 25th at 7:00pm in the Troy High Auditorium. This program is designed to give students who are considering registering for Band or Color Guard during their high school years more information to assist them in the decision making process. An overview of the Band and Color Guard programs will be presented. Current TC band members and boosters will be on hand to answer questions about the band and color guard programs.
