CSE Mini Spartan Weekly
Your Once-a-Week Update from Cold Spring Elementary
Dec. 8, 2017
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings from CSE,
Plaid Tidings to you from CSE! This time of year is often filled with so many busy activities. Staff and Students are busy planning holiday activities and plans. The staff has been incredibly busy with Math, Reading, Science and Social.. not to mention the very important subjects of Music, Art, Phy Ed and Media. We have a unique opportunity at CSE to make sure that our students receive a well rounded and appropriate mix of Arts and Academics. In fact, we take pride in nurturing the growth of all our students in Social, Emotional and Intellectual Growth.
Some of the activities we have coming at school in the next few weeks include an awesome Kindergarten and 1st Grade Holiday Music program! The students have been working hard in preparing an outstanding show for you! In addition, students will be coming to spend around 2 hours with me on the 21st for the Principal Holiday Party! We will watch a movie together and then end with a small treat! Please see the opt out notification below if you would like them to not participate in the movie. I have included the Trailer to the classic "The Santa Clause" below.
Please note that our outside recess guidelines are as follows:
Inside if the Air Temp is < 0 or if the Wind Child is less than -10. This means students will be going outside quite a bit for morning and afternoon recess.
This week will go fast! Take some time this week to read with you kids! Just 20 minutes a day changes the trajectory of your child's Future!
Sincerely,
Dr. Eric Skanson

What I love most about my job at CSE
What I love most about my job is the opportunity to explore new possibilities through multiple mediums. To have a chance to get messy and have fun with all the students at CSE is truly a rewarding experience. The kids here have so much to offer to myself and each other that there is never a dull moment. This keeps things exciting and fresh. You just never know whats coming next.
Favorite Food

Favorite Children's Book.. and Why!
My favorite children's book author would have to be Dr. Suess because of his wonderful imagination. His books are always so much fun to read and look through. 2nd in line to Dr. Suess would have to be Herve' Tullet, this author has created a lot of fun interactive books that I have been using to teach color mixing with kindergarten. This has been a lot of fun also as the kids think the book is magic!
Hobbies
My hobbies include making art, building projects around the house, hiking, being outside, or on the lake, and gardening/flowers.
Interesting FACTS about ME
When I was in middle school I made it in the Annandale newspaper for spearing a carp that was 7 lbs shy of the state record. The paper was titled, boy captures carp, with a full size picture of me trying to lift the fish off the ground. Apparently, there wasn't much to talk about that week in the paper, because they gave me a pretty good size spread. lol
There is a lot more to the story, so if your interested just ask. The picture below is not me, but it is somewhat similar in comparison as the carp was much bigger than I was.
