It's time to choose...
Masterclass
Committee Chair: Andrea Ryan
Masterclass Committee is responsible for bringing in professionals to speak on various topics related to music education. Past master classes have been given on arts advocacy, the Arts Education Collaborative in Pittsburgh, and the combination of beginning band and Music Learning Theory. Have some ideas for new masterclasses? Think about applying for Masterclass committee!
Social
Committee Chair: Emily Rhoadhouse
Service
Committee Chair: Christin Light
Service Committee allows our chapter of OCMEA to give back to the community by putting on local service projects. These have included instrument petting zoos, teacher appreciation week activities, and student and faculty breakfasts. This year's committee chair is also working on a collaboration with Big Brothers, Big Sisters to put on performances in nursing home!
Public Relations
The Public Relations Committee acts as the communicating body of the organization. Our responsibilities include maintaining the bulletin board on the third floor, running social networking sites for the chapter, and putting the word out to the community about certain OCMEA events. The committee consists of a chair and six members (one from each of the other committees).
Advocacy
Advocacy Committee keeps us informed about the happenings of art education at the local, state, and national level. They update us with news and information, and forward us action alerts from arts education organizations so that we can have a voice about our future careers. Last year, we had the opportunity to contact state legislators on behalf of the National Endowment for the Arts. Every November, Advocacy Committee holds an annual voting registration drive to encourage students to get out there and vote!
