Nihoa Finch
Overview
I have a short beak so i can eat bugs and seeds. I am a decenant of the Hawaiian honeycreeper. The Hawaiian honeycreeper is a bird that has many variations of itself for different areas. My beak is small and round so I can eat bugs/seeds.
I am one of the only species on this island. There are just me and one of my family members here. But there are lots of us. There is lots of food for us to eat here, there aren't any humans to mess things up and there isnt any shortage of bugs.
What is adaptive radiation?
The hawaiian honeycreepers are a great example of adaptive radiation. They were one bird species with some slight random mutations. Those mutations eventually became their own species. For exwmple the nihoa finch. There were a lot of bugs and seeds so it developed a smaller beak
