Aftermath of the Storm
I hope everyone has power, internet, and cell phone service again. I also hope that everyone's family and home are safe. I am aware that there were many trees that fell that harmed more than power lines. I also know that there have been some members of the community that have suffered injuries and deaths due to the storm. Our thoughts are with those families and we will look for ways to support them after the storm.
Our building, CHS, is closed through Friday, February 19. There is still some work to do to ensure that the building is safe and to clean up some leaks. We will let you know when we are open again to give out Chromebooks, hotspots, books, and supplies.
Comprehensive Distance Learning will resume on Thursday, February 18th as previously scheduled. We look forward to seeing your students again.
Rescheduled Conferences
Our Advisory Teachers will contact anyone who had scheduled a parent, teacher, student conference to reschedule. We will have time next Wednesday to conference with parents and we will make sure that all conferences are completed by Wednesday, March 3rd.
Black History Month
February is Black History month and our Black Student Union, BSU, interviewed Mayor Travis Stovall of Gresham. Mayor Stovall graciously agreed to the interview and was able to make time for our students even during the storm. He had important things to say about amplifying voices. Fartun Mohamed, president of our BSU, conducted the interview. The interview was also facilitated by Jessica Carr of REAP. Our students will see part of the interview in their advisory classes. We hope that our celebration of Black History Month will help to amplify the voices of Black students.
We also want to make sure that our students understand that Black History is US History and it is important for all of us to learn. We believe that Black History should be taught and discussed throughout the year and not just limited to history classes in order to have a full and complete understanding of our history as a nation.
