Message from Split Rock Elementary School Principal
What a week! The weather even cooperated and we certainly enjoyed the sun and warm weather! We look forward to our Halloween Parade that will be occurring on Monday, October 31 (see information below) and jumping right into November, which will be yet another jam-packed month! Have a great weekend Split Rockers!

Halloween
Here are some friendly reminders:
- The parade will begin at 1:45 pm
Please send your child's costume to school in a bag. We ask that students do not come to school in costume or wear any makeup of any kind.
All scary, bloody masks, weapons, spears or other dangerous accessories must remain at home. Please respect that our youngest students can be frightened easily and we want all participants to have an enjoyable experience.
We encourage all families to follow normal dismissal procedures and times. Minimizing additional signouts and limiting the amount of traffic during dismissal is imperative for the safety of students, staff and families.
Only those parents already assigned as volunteers will be permitted into the building for the classroom parties, please be sure to sign in at the main office.
*Be sure you have signed up for SchoolMessenger! This will be the tool to notify parents/guardians that we will cancel the outdoor parade by noon IF the weather does not cooperate.
Are you Receiving All of our Communications? Helpful Tips about the SchoolMessenger Communication System:

Brr...Cold Weather/Outerwear
Cold Weather Outerwear
The cooler weather is upon us! Please keep in mind that our students will continue to go outside for recess. If the temperature is 20 degrees Fahrenheit or above, recess can take place outside. If the temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit (this includes factoring in the WINDCHILL), recess will be indoors. Students should always have appropriate clothing for the weather: Coat, boots, snow pants, hat, and gloves. Also, please remember to label your child's cold-weather clothing. You will be so glad you did!

Calling All Veterans
In November we will celebrate Thankfulness and Bravery as important character traits. In preparation for our Veterans Day Celebration on Thursday, November 10, we would love to offer the students at Split Rock Elementary the opportunity to recognize their veterans, therefore, we would love to have your son or daughter bring a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle and/or sibling as a special guest if they are a veteran and have them recognized during the assembly. If your child has a Veteran that would be willing and able to attend the assembly as an honored guest, please email myself and Mrs. Flaherty both directly at mkimpland@westgenesee.org and cflaherty@westgenesee.org to be added to our list.
I would ask that you include their rank, branch of service and the year in which they served.
We also encourage students to wear Red, White, and Blue on that day to honor our current servicemen and women, as well as all our Veterans. A letter with more information will be coming home soon with your child.

Annual Halloween Candy Collection November 1-11
The Split Rock PTO asks students to donate their extra Halloween candy to benefit a good cause in our community. Since this initiative started in 2015, Split Rock students have donated over 1,200 pounds of candy to Operation Gratitude, Golisano Children’s Hospital, Clear Path for
Veterans, and the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
This year the Split Rock PTO is again partnering with Clear Path for Veterans. Clear Path for
Veterans is an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of veterans and their families in Central New York while addressing the wellness and social issues they face in civilian life.
To show our appreciation for the military, Split Rock Grade 4 students will take the candy donated by all students and create treat bags for these veterans that will include a note thanking them for their service.
If your child would like to participate, please have them drop their extra candy in the Halloween box provided in the “Bridge” hallway between November 1-11. Please only donate individually wrapped items; we cannot give homemade items or pre-made treat bags.
On behalf of the Split Rock PTO and Clear Path for Veterans, thank you for supporting this initiative!
