Start of School: Achieve3000
2020-2021 Back to School Guide for SWP Teachers
There is so much to do at the start of school it is easy to forget all the tasks that might need your attention. Use this guide to make sure nothing slips through the cracks with Achieve 3000!
Before School Starts: Check Your Logins & Rosters
Both you and the students will access Achieve through the Clever Portal. You will not need to set up your classes.
- Can you get into Achieve through Clever?
- Do you see your classes?
- Do your class rosters look correct?
If you have any questions or problems, email Rachel.
New This Year
Align Articles to Your Curriculum
It is important that we are using Achieve as an integral part of our lessons, not as a stand-alone activity. All SWP teachers should select and schedule articles specifically aligned with the curriculum. Simply having students complete auto-scheduled articles or search for their own is not an acceptable way to use the program. It is best practice to remove the auto-schedule lessons to avoid confusion about what has been assigned (for both students and your colleagues!)
Science & Social Studies Teachers - You will need to schedule their articles first, as you will be selecting articles on specific topics you are teaching. Please have these scheduled by Friday, August 16.
ELA Teachers - Please allow the science and social studies teachers first dibs on articles! There are many options for you to use for any given skill/strategy in your curriculum. Check to be sure an article has not already been assigned in another class and communicate with your colleagues to avoid double assigning the same article.
First Student Days: Check Student Logins
The first (or second) day of class, it will be a good idea to make sure your students can also login to Achieve through Clever. You don't want to be ready to take the LevelSet test and discover you have login issues! Have each student give it a try. When they successfully login, they will see the LevelSet test, but they can just close their tab and return to this later!
- Can your students all get into Achieve through Clever?
- Do they see the LevelSet test?
If you have any questions or problems, email Rachel.
LevelSet Test
LevelSet tests will be given through ELA classes. If you only teach science or social studies classes, you get to skip this section! But... remember that students will not be able to access articles until they have completed their LevelSet test.
Testing Window:
You may choose which day to give your LevelSet withing this window, but be sure to allow ample time for make-ups and retesting.
The initial LevelSet test window begins Mondayt, August 10.
Testing should be completed no later than Friday, August 21.
Start Teaching With Achieve!
ELA Teachers - Make sure students understand each of the 5 Steps to completing their articles. Even though most students in grades 4-12 are very familiar with the routine, take the time to really teach them how to do each step well and apply the reading skills and strategy you're teaching each week.
Science & Social Studies Teachers - Incorporate a class discussion of the article with your lesson on the topic!
