Message from Geordie

Good afternoon everyone,

Another great week at St Bernie’s with lots going on. For those of you who were at school this morning, thank you for your good humour and support when the heavens opened, and we found ourselves in shin deep water across the school! We are all happy here, but very soggy…

Well done to our Year 1 students for their performance, even while it was thundering down outside. It was so lovely to see the resilience of our students when things changed or didn’t quite go to plan. We will be running the assembly with Merit Awards again on Monday morning for parents and our students – for those who can’t attend, we will film it and send out a private link.

In line with our Strategic Goal of, ‘creating a purposeful sustainability program at school that builds an ethic and makes a difference’, Mrs Murphy has facilitated a Waste Sorted Schools incursion to show and discuss how we can better manage our waste here at school. From this, and with the help of the P&F, we hope to have a waste and recycling station up and running by 2023. This will complement the amazing work already happening here with Mrs Cairns Garden, the Nude Food Days, and our chickens!

Our Nude Food lunchboxes are well underway and proving to be very successful, our goal will be to remove our general waste bins on Tuesdays and Thursdays (the days we don’t have canteen) to minimise our waste at school even further.

This week we also had our School Advisory Council (SAC) Meeting and then this morning, our P&F Meeting. Thanks very much to all the parents who attended, we are very lucky to have such an engaged community. Obviously, our SAC are focused heavily on the Masterplan for the school which continues to be on track. On Tuesday the 28th we will be having a Community Meeting at 5.30pm in the library. More info will be sent out. Please RSVP in the link below.

Our P&F have been really supportive of myself and the Leadership Team since we started last year. They are continuously looking for ways to support our strategic goals and are looking to help in a number of ways in 2022. Some of these include:

- Reading Resources

- Air conditioning in Year One and Two Block

- New Robotics Resources

- Uniforms for St Bernie’s community sporting teams

- New washer and dryer

- Waste and recycling station for the Sustainability Hub.

All of these are greatly appreciated and will benefit our students. I thank everyone involved in these for their support!

If you see a teacher over the next few weeks, please give them a high-five! Their reports are now being finalised, ready to go out in Week 10 and they have all been involved in a variety of different parent meetings before the reports go out. I hope you will all see the hard work that has gone into improving their consistency, while also making sure they contain all the information you need. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated staff here at St Bernie’s.

Have a great weekend, it is going to be a wet one!

Year 10 Kolbe Student Visit

This week, we were lucky enough to have some Year 10 students visit our school. It was lovely to see ex students returning and to welcome some students who had not been to Bernie's before!.

Our children enjoyed the interactions with the older students and had lots of fun too!
