EVERY School Day COUNTS! We need everyone present daily and on TIME! It is so important to arrive on time for school. The day begins at 7:40 with our first bell and the Tardy Bell rings at 7:45. Our car line begins at 7am each school day. We have had many students tardy this year. We are starting our Attendance Incentive with weekly drawings to hopefully reduce the number of daily tardies. Attendance prizes are awarded each week to one student in grades 4K-2 and one student in grades 3-5 who have not been tardy during the week. So, arrive on time and have a chance for an attendance prize. The list of weekly winners will be posted in the office.
If your student is absent from school, please remember to send an excuse (parent or medical) to the office. You may write 5 parent notes per year. Students who accumulate 5 unexcused absences or 3 consecutive unexcused absences will have an Attendance Plan written.
Please remember to have your child exit the right side of the car so they step out onto the sidewalk. Exiting from the left side is not allowed in car line. If your child must exit on the left, park in the short-term parking, and walk them across to the sidewalk.
Our afternoon dismissal begins at 2:25. Students leave their classrooms when they are called and exit the side doors of the school. Students are asked to stand in line quietly and do not eat or drink in the dismissal line while waiting to be sent to their car. We ask all parents to be in the line by 2:45 for student dismissal. If there needs to be a change in transportation for the day, a handwritten note is required to be sent to the office prior to dismissal. Parents who need to check students out early must arrive prior to 2pm for early dismissal.
5 Ways to Strengthen Your Child's Literacy Skills
- Talk to children often.
- Make reading together a routine.
- Play rhyming games.
- Set up an art/writing table in your home.
- Provide activities to support motor development (climbing, running, skipping, lacing, stacking, dressing).

The month of November provides a number of activities, events, and programs for families to celebrate reading, books, and literacy. Added to the seasonal celebration of Thanksgiving, thankfulness, grateful, and kindness, there are some other notable month long celebrations: Picture Book Month, National Family Literacy Month, American Indian, Alaska native and Native Hawaiian Heritage Month. The school library has lots of books for check out on these topics and much more. Students can also access Sora by Overdrive, TumbleBooks, and Epic for more e-books, audio books, story books, graphic novels and read alongs. Read, read, and read! Let November be the month your family celebrates reading for enjoyment!
It has been a pleasure getting to know all our new students, and it’s been great having our returning students back. I must say, it is quite a feat learning everyone, but I’m getting it done! We have been establishing a great foundation in our music learning space so we can have a year full of fun and of course,… learning!! We are currently working on our Virtual Veterans Day Showcase 2021. When that is shared in a couple of weeks, we hope you take time to watch and enjoy. Thank you all for your support!
Our students are actively participating in cooperative games promoting working together, fair play, and sportsmanship. Our 4K-2 students are including activities to enhance their locomotor skills. These locomotor activities also target improving your child’s fitness level. Students in grades 3-5 are also participating in activities to enhance their cardio-vascular fitness level. Along with cooperative activities, our 3-5 students are preparing for Fitnessgram testing which focuses on cardio-vascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. I encourage you to model being physically active Healthy Living.
The American Heart Association recommends that healthy children, stay active throughout the day. Kids age and older should get at least an hour of moderate to vigorous activity every day. This will help them maintain a healthy weight and keep their hearts, brains and bodies healthy.
Here are some ideas suggested by the American Heart Association:
*Enjoy the great outdoors! Schedule a time each day for an outdoor activity with your children. Hike a local nature trail or ride a bicycle path.
*Schedule family playtime. Take a walk or play a family game of tag after dinner each night. Choose activities that require movement, such as bowling, catch or miniature golf.
*With the holidays coming up, choose toys wisely. Give children toys that encourage physical activity, such as balls, kites, skateboards and jump ropes.
*Limit screen time. Experts warn that one to two hours of screen time a day should be the limit for children, but some are logging more than double that amount. Set boundaries, keep the television and electronic media out of your child's bedroom and limit computer usage to school projects.
