1.1 Classroom News!!!

From Ms. Jordan Week of 4-7-14

News and Announcements

*Next week is parent-teacher conferences!! These conferences are student-led. Therefore, make sure you bring your child to school with you so that they can lead the conference. If the conference time that you are scheduled for does not work for you, PLEASE let me know. Many have already re-scheduled conferences. Having a conference with your child is very important so please let me know!

*IMPORTANT: Except for the day of your child's conference, all students will be going home at 12:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

*Also your child can stay at school on the day of their conference. PLEASE email me if you want your child to stay at school during that time.

Here are the students that I already know are staying:

Mathilde

Isla

Jimena

Barbara

Algot

Samah

If your child is not a part of this list and you WANT them to be please email me! I will make sure they stay until their conference time.

*Even though next week is the week before spring break we are still learning. Please let me know if your child will be leaving early next week to go on vacation.

*Please remember to turn in the conference form I sent home last Friday. This will give me excellent information about your child that I can respond to and use to include in the conference.

*Please send a healthy snack with your child every day.

*Homework packets are being completed and turned in to me! That is AWESOME! Please make sure to have your child do their homework even if you need to take more time on it than 1 week. I am not worried about the due date, instead I want your child to be getting the extra practice. If the homework is WAY too hard for your child, please email me and let me know. Together we can come up with a solution so that they are still able to get the extra practice. Homework should be something your child should be able to complete with a large amount of independence. Again, please let me know if that is not the case.

*Please make sure your child brings their library books back to school by Friday of each week or they WILL NOT be able to check out a new library book on Friday.

*Also, make sure your child bring back their take home books each day. We are still missing many books!

*If you are having a birthday party and you are not inviting ALL the girls or ALL the boys in the class then the invitations may not be passed out at school or by me. You need to contact the people you are inviting by bringing the invitation to their apartment or by contacting them by phone or electronically. Otherwise not everyone in the class feels included and there are hurt feelings. Please make sure to follow this school policy.

*LAST REMINDER! If your child is taking a different bus than usual or you are picking your child up, please contact the elementary office. I CANNOT send your child to a different location without a note from the office. THANK YOU!

Popcorn Words:

We are now moving to spelling the popcorn words instead of reading them. All of the students can pretty much read all the popcorn words. However, it does not hurt to keep practicing with the flashcards at home. NOW instead of just having your students read the flashcards, you can tell them the word and they have to spell it for you. It is another way to use the flashcards and meet our goal. Also, I will be sending home lists of words for the students to practice spelling as part of their homework. Thank you for your support! As the students grow we are finding more ways to challenge them. One way is to focus on the spelling instead of just the reading since they have already mastered that skill.

Spelling:

Next week is a review before our week break. We will be working on long vowels with silent e and two vowels going walking.

For example: a___e, o____e, u_____e, i _____e

cake

tube

cone

hike

This review is so students are able to spell the difference between long vowels with silent e and words with two vowels.

For example: ea, ee, oa, ai

break

need

boat

rain

Home Fun!!

Since we are reviewing 2 vowels go walking and long vowels with silent e I will include these videos for your viewing pleasure. One is the 2 vowels the kids LOVE and the other ones are to practice with silent e. Remember NO SCHOOL THE WEEK AFTER NEXT!!! Have a wonderful weekend, week, and break. See you at conferences! Thank you for your support. As always please email me if you have any questions or concerns. My email is jrjordan@isp.edu.pa.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Julie Jordan
