Hawks Happenings

November 2022

Time flies when you are having fun!

My goodness! It's already November! We have been in school for 46 days and we have already accomplished so much! We had an amazing Fall Festival led by our fabulous PTO! We have established reading groups to address everyone's individual reading needs. We have held an Open House and invited parents into our building for various events! We have participated in field trips and projects. We have learned about other countries and cheered for our friends as we recognized Hispanic Heritage Month. We have hired two tutors who are supporting students identified for extra support. We have had dress up days and fun classroom adventures! Many families have already had parent conferences and many more are scheduled. Soon paper report cards will be coming home so you have something to put on your fridge! It feels so good to have a more traditional school year!

As we move into the Second Nine Weeks, we look forward to even more awesome experiences. Please continue to work with your child on his/her homework and read every night. Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and comes to school ready to learn. We appreciate your support of NBES and we are working diligently to support your child and your family.

Working Together,

Mrs. Allison

Veteran's Day - A time to remember and be thankful.

On June 28, 2017, Governor Roy Cooper signed into law, An Act To Establish Veterans’ History Awareness Month In November. The intent of this law is to enable students to gain a better understanding of the meaning and importance of the contributions of American veterans and veterans from North Carolina. The North Carolina State Board of Education (NC SBE) is tasked with identifying recommended programs that schools can use during Veterans’ History Awareness Month.

Did you know that North Carolina is the 4th largest state in the nation in the number of school-aged military dependents of active-duty personnel? North Carolina is also home to over a quarter-million children of military retirees or veterans in every county in the state. Currently, there are more than 22 million Veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Let us all thank and honor them in November.

Reminder of COVID Protocols

  • If a student tests positive for COVID (at home or at a healthcare provider), they would isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms began. We will recognize the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS regarding the use of a face covering to be worn for days 6-10 upon return to school.

  • Our normal exclusionary symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting are in effect. If a student has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they must remain at home until symptoms are resolved for 24 hours.

  • Hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning protocols, and improved ventilation are all still priorities and important mitigating strategies.

  • Face coverings remain optional, to be worn by anyone at anytime.

  • Physical distancing such as 3 ft or 6 ft apart is no longer required.

  • Contact tracing is not required.

  • Following the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS, MAHEC will not be providing rapid antigen testing in our schools. Staff and families may order at home tests for free via this link: https://www.covid.gov/tests.

  • MAHEC will send home further guidance regarding when students need to stay home due to an illness.

  • For students where an absence is Covid related please indicate this in your parent or health provider's note.

  • Students/teachers will follow the same guidelines for makeup work as they would for any other illness or injury.
