Animal Rights
Hunter Spielvogel
Background
The debate about whether animals deserve rights or not has been going on for years. Animal rights activists have been striving and fighting for years to help animals receive the rights they deserve.
Protests
“Organizations such as PETA have stood outside many businesses that abuse animals and have protested. Sometimes, they have stood outside these businesses for hours on end” (PETA).
Peter Singer
“Peter Singer believes that ignoring an animal’s interests simply because the creature is not human constitutes an indefensible, morally arbitrary form of behavior that he terms speciesism” (Rollin).
Horse Carriages
“Horse carriage accidents are growing each and every year. These animals suffer from respiratory ailments and develop many health problems because they breathe in exhaust fumes from cars. There is no federal protection against horse carriages, and people have been seriously injured, or even died from accidents” (PETA).
Social Media Impact
People today are always on their phone. We are constantly checking e-mail, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook. Animal right organizations use social media to show people their blogs, photos, and videos.
Wired
“We are now more wired than ever” (WebMd).
Believing in Animal Rights
“Over 80% of the U.S. believes that animals have rights” (Rollins).
