TAblets and Chargers

Students will be turning in tablets and chargers next week. I am asking that all students bring their charger to school on Monday along with their tablet. Students will not be bringing their tablet home again after this weekend (with the exception of students signed up for summer school).

Last Day of School

On the last day of school 4th grade will be participating in field day. We are in need of volunteers to help run the station and/or guide our class from station to station. Field day will take place on Thursday, June 4th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. If you would like to join in the fun, please let me know.

On Tuesday, we did a fitness activity where we had to roll the dice and go to that exercise. Each time you made it all the way around you got a red wristband. On Wednesday, we played protect the pin. In that game you go get a pin and get a rhino ball and you have to try and knock other peoples' pins down, but have to protect yours. On Thursday, we went outside for gym and then came back inside and played a game where you have to run around half of the gym without getting hit. You could hide behind objects to keep from getting hit by a rhino skin ball. If you got hit, you had to go back to the start. On Friday, we did the last mile run of the year. My favorite game this week was where we had protect ourselves from getting hit with rhino skin balls. PE is my favorite subject and I want to be a baseball player when grow up and follow in my big brother's footsteps.

This week during music we watched a movie about using different materials to make music. It was a really good movie because it inspired me, because these are things are already have at home and I love to make music. Today, we earned a reward because we followed directions and did a good job listening while we worked on our composition project. Our reward was freeze dance. Freeze dance is a game where you dance and when the music stops you have to stop. You can breathe, look around with your eyes, and blink. If you are caught moving you are out. What is your favorite thing about music? My favorite thing is practicing playing instruments and working together.

This week in science we made a solar power oven to cook marshmallows in to make s'more. It was a very difficult process to think if it is going to cook from the sun. We worked together with a group to use tin foil, wax paper, saran wrap, straws, wooden sticks, construction paper, tape, mirrors and cardboard boxes. With all these materials somehow we had to find a way to cook a marshmallow using the sun. I like doing this project because it involves working as a team, you have to go through some challenges, and we had to think about if it was going to trap the heat in or let it out. We had to think about what materials would be the best for it. Do you think you could do this project?

This week in reading we acted out plays. One group did the play Anansi the spider and another group did Pandora's Box. It was fun because everyone got a part. Everyone did really good speaking fluently. We are presently reading Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix as a class. It's a really good book, because it has a lot of action. When Mrs. Lanham stops reading everyone always sighs. Everyone always makes great predictions. Some of the predictions have happened in the book. That's mind blowing! We read articles about robots. It is so cool how they act like humans! Would you like to have a robot friend? We got a paper and wrote down what problem it solves, what disadvantages and advantages it has. We all really enjoy reading.
