Grant Monthly
November/December 2018
Welcome to Holiday Season!
- Just a reminder that if the "feels like" temperature is 10 degrees or above, we will go outside for recess. And our gym doors do not open until at least 7:40am (sometimes a few minutes later!) Please make sure your students are dressed appropriately for Nebraska's changing weather conditions!
- For your planning purposes, Grant will NOT put on a winter music concert this year. The elementary schools are setting up a rotating music concert schedule; this year, Grant's concert will be held on March 25 at the Johnny Carson Theater.
- Thank you for supporting your children and their education! We value the dialogue and great conversations that happen between school and home! Please continue to contact your child's teacher and stay up to date with what's happening in your child's classroom!
- The best way to stay informed is by monitoring your child's Seesaw account. Simply log in and see the wonderful thing your student is doing! And it's a great way to communicate with your child's teacher, too!
- Speaking of staying informed....do you have new home phone number? A new work number? A new cell number? A new emergency contact person? If you do, please let the school know so we can update our records!
Math Focus this year at Grant
At home, you can always use flash cards to reinforce math skills, or you can just quiz your kids in the car on the way home ("Hey, what's 5 times 4?"). Check out another idea below....
PTO Update
Our PTO received some thank yous from teachers and has agreed to complete the Booster-Thon Fun Run Fundraiser again next year.
We will be calling parents to provide Thanksgiving treats for students and each student will also receive a Christmas treat bag on the last day of school on December 21.
We are also considering:
- a "Penny War" with a percentage of the proceeds to benefit a local charity.
- a "Parents Night Off" in December, where parents can drop off their kids at school so they can complete their holiday shopping (tentatively planned for December 7 from 3:30-8:00)
What we need from parents to accomplish the two activities listed above:
- Large Coffee Cans with lids for the Penny War
- Volunteers to play games and do activities with kids for the Parents Night Off
You can bring your empty coffee cans to school; if you'd like to volunteer for the Parents Night Off, please contact Nichole Marshall at Nichole.Marshall1@yahoo.com
Now, a special maroon Norfolk shirt is available for everyone! These shirts will be sold for a very limited time (only until November 16!) and a portion of the sales will benefit the NPS Foundation! Get yours online today!
Veteran's Day
We were able to do 10 of the big posters, so we delivered nine of them to the Veteran's Home and kept one to display on our wall at Grant!
