Eagle Ridge Academy Community,
We would like to extend an invitation to join ERA’s Policy Working Group. This advisory group reports to the Board of Directors and consists of parents, teachers, and the Executive Director. We meet monthly to review, update, and create new policies as needed.
Monthly, please plan to virtually attend an hour-long meeting and expect to work individually, outside of the meeting, for an additional hour. A minimum two-year commitment is recommended.
Participating in this working group is a great way to learn about the operations of ERA’s Board of Directors.
Please reach out to Executive Director Jason Ulbrich at julbrich@eagleridgeacademy.org with any questions. We look forward to collaborating with you!

Classical Corner: Amplify Language Arts
Dear Families,
As you know, this year the School of Grammar has adopted a new Language Arts program - Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (Amplify CKLA). This comprehensive program is designed with a two-strand approach, integrating seamlessly with our existing Core Knowledge sequence. While the skills-strand teaches children to read through rigorous and research-based methods, the knowledge-strand makes the stories and lessons of the Core Knowledge sequence come alive through engaging stories, writing activities, and meaningful discussions. As we chose this program, these strengths were known. Yet, what was not fully realized was just how in line all aspects would be with our Classical approach.
Community Updates: School of Grammar
School of Grammar Notes - Janelle Mellgren, School of Grammar Principal
School of Grammar Families,
I hope you are all enjoying our transition into fall weather! Our school year is off to a good beginning. We are embracing the journey of learning how to do familiar things differently as we use our Amplify CKLA curriculum. This can be an unexpected but healthy challenge. I’ve had the chance to observe classrooms to see how this learning looks in action. The depth and connectedness of what they’re learning, as well as the strong integration of writing and discussion, is one key goal of Classical education. Having so many components wrapped into one program allows students to make deep connections and ask great questions.
Fall conferences are coming in just three weeks. We really value this time to connect with each of you so we can share what your children are learning, doing, and contributing to their classroom and school. Information about scheduling fall conferences has been sent home via email. We will be offering both in-person and virtual conferences to make it as convenient as possible.
Sincerely,
Janelle Mellgren

Notes from the Academic Advising Office - Linda Kaiser, College and Academic Advisor
I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.
—Lucy Maud Montgomery
Dear Families,
In a snap, the month of September disappeared. Thank you so much to students, staff, and family members for the warm welcome to Eagle Ridge Academy. I am grateful for Ms. MJ's support during the transition, and I look forward to becoming part of this academic team.
My husband and I recently moved to Minnesota from North Dakota. We have two daughters, Elizabeth, who graduated from UMN Morris with an education degree, and Allie, who is currently a journalism major at UMN–TC. With our last daughter graduating in December, it's sad to think those high school and college years are over. Honestly, it's not all gloomy as it'll be nice to have a little more cash, and adult children can be so fun.
Nevertheless, for me at Eagle Ridge Academy, October is all about financial aid. Whether it's helping juniors qualify for scholarships by taking the PSAT or assisting the Class of 2023 with completing the FAFSA, the goal is simple: to prepare students for higher education with the least amount of debt possible.
In partnership –
Linda Kaiser
Upcoming Events:

Honoring Traditions with Eagle Ridge Academy Graduate Sri Guntipally
We are pleased to welcome 2021 ERA alumna Sridhatri Guntipally as our guest speaker, who will perform a Thillana from Bharatanatyam, a form of classical Indian dance that originated in Southern India almost 2000 years ago. This piece was choreographed by the reknowned Bharatanatyam exponent Smt. Alarmel Valli for Sri’s teachers, Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy.
Sri was the co-valedictorian of her graduating class and grateful recipient of the Marilyn R. Strand Memorial scholarship. She was also a U.S. Presidential Scholar candidate and National Merit Scholar. She is currently a sophomore at the University of Minnesota, majoring in human physiology and minoring in environmental sciences policy and management, and a touring apprentice at Ragamala Dance Company.
