Jonathan Alder Junior High

Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
I hope your family had a wonderful Labor Day weekend last weekend. Although it was a short week, the JAJHS students and teachers were still busy with activities, projects, lessons, and athletic events!
We are excited to share that we are partnering with a new school photographer for this school year. We are enthusiastic about utilizing local photography studio, Diane Spagnuolo Photography, for our student pictures and yearbooks. Please see the important information below regarding ordering pictures online prior to picture day, this Tuesday, September 14th.
On Friday, September 10th, our students will be participating in discussions and lessons surrounding the events of 9/11. Please consider continuing these discussions in your home this weekend and honoring the victims of this tragedy.
As always, please stay connected with us on social media:

7th Grade
* In Language Arts with Mrs. Danner and Mrs. Kline we are reading Realistic Fiction with Signposts and our Reader's Notebooks. We are currently reading Jason Reynolds' Ghost as a way to learn new reading strategies!
If any families have unwanted lap trays with foldout legs, we would love to have them for our ELA classroom. We've learned that they sit nicely on top of bookshelves, desks and tables to create standing desks for students who work better on their feet.
* Mrs. Kugler's World Languages and Cultures students have started the school year off with a fun research project of a country of their choice. The students researched their chosen country's flag and created colorful paper replicas to decorate the classroom!
8th Grade
* Mrs. Hall's Science classes will be finishing up our unit on Scientific Process next week. Students will then begin learning about Earth and its history.

If you order online, please print your order confirmation and have your student bring to picture day with them.
Final Forms
To streamline work and minimize paper handling, the district is utilizing Final Forms again for all required back to school forms. If you need assistance regarding completing forms, please contact the school office (614-873-4635). We ask that all families update their contact information and complete the required documents found on Final Forms.
When logging into Final Forms to sign the student documents the students will have to reset their password this year.
Canvas
JA 5-12 grade families will continue to utlize Canvas for online learning activities and for accessing students’ progress and grades. Students have been shown how to access pairing codes for their families to use in their accounts.
Here are some helpful resources:
Bus Passes
Our bus drivers are working hard to adjust to new protocols.
To assist with this, we are unable to honor bus pass requests as we have in the past. For activities such as a sleepover or friends coming over at school, we will ask that these transportation arrangements be made after school hours. Please do not send a note requesting that your student ride home with another student as we are simply unable to honor these requests to start the year.
If your family has extenuating circumstances that may necessitate a bus pass, please contact Mr. Malany (ryan.malany@japioneers.org) directly to discuss this situation.
PTO
Do you want to be an involved parent in your child’s school experience? Join our PTO! There are a number of ways for parents to help throughout the year and levels of commitment can vary based on your interest and availability!
Parent volunteers are an important part of the PTO success. In the fall, PTO is busy running concession stands at both JAJHS volleyball and football games. All proceeds go back to the PTO for programming throughout the year. If you are able to volunteer, please consider signing up here:

Message from the District Nurse
Parents/Guardians of 7th graders:
Please turn in Immunization records showing your 7th grader received the required TDAP and Meningitis Vaccines or an Exemption Form, if necessary. You can Fax the records to the junior high office at 614-873-0845, email them to ungerdo@japioneers.org or bring the paperwork to the junior high office.
Reminders from JAJHS Office
Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor.
The required form “Distribution/Student Use of Medicines/Medications” must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
School Fees
The school fees for 7th and 8th grade can be paid online using MyPaymentsPlus or you can bring cash or check to the school office. The fees are $30 per student for the 2021-2022 school year.
