A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Falcon Families!
Tomorrow, 1/18/21, is Martin Luther King Jr Day. We have challenged students to show us how they are using this as a day “on” not a day off. Our goal is for students to use this opportunity to do something for their community including; writing a nice note to someone, neighborhood clean up, helping a peer out, checking in on people who are shut in. We reminded students to do things that keep them safe including keeping socially distanced, wearing a mask, and honoring other’s boundaries. Please share your day on activities through our multiple social media platforms or via email so we can showcase the good work!
There is not school Monday, January 18 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Due to no classes this day, Wednesday, January 20 is a regular school day. That means students will have all their usual classes at the same time unlike most other Wednesdays. Please remind your student and mark your calendars!
Last week I mentioned that grades would be coming out soon. I have included the same message below because NOW is the time to reach out to teachers and support staff about how to help students turn in missing work and create plans to show proficiency with their teachers. Here is last week’s message: “At the end of January, teachers will be putting in grades for the first semester. There are few marks that teachers have been encouraged to use that I would like to explain. A grade of ‘“I” means incomplete. This means that students have an opportunity to have the grade change via a plan agreed upon by both the teacher and student. This means the student is really close to showing they’re proficient in a standard but they need to do a little bit more to show that. A grade of an “N” means no grade. This means the student has not shown enough evidence for a teacher to give them a grade. This will be used to students who have not engaged or have engaged very little. This is a great time to check parentvue and canvas for parents to see how your child is progressing! Please let us know if you have questions about this.”
THank you to the parents who have completed our short survey about opportunities for parent support. If you have not completed it yet, please click the link above and answer the few questions about how we can help provide support to YOU! We’ll be in communication soon about dates for sessions and topics.
Have a fantastic week and as always, please feel free to reach out with questions or comments at kelly_cox@beaverton.k12.or.us.

CARTA DE LA DIRECTORA
Familias Falcon!

Parents and Guardians:
Our registrar began notifying you of needed immunizations starting in September. Please get the immunizations done at your provider's office and return the completed paperwork to the school.
On January 13th, Washington County Health Department was sent a list of students who are not up to date. The County will send you an exclusion notice. Your child will not be excluded from CDL but when we do return to in person learning, your student will not be able to attend until they are up to date and the school has received written notice.
Absences for exclusion are considered unexcused. It can be very difficult to get an appointment with a provider for several weeks before exclusion so please get this done now! It is also the perfect time to get a flu shot for your child if you have not already done so.

Hi Falcon Families!
Please look next week for an update.
Important Attendance Note: Students may not call in their absences on the attendance line, it must be the parent or guardian. Same with email, the student can notify the teacher that they will be missing a class, but the parent/guardian must call the attendance line 503-356-2601 to notify attendance of the excused absence.
Unlike last spring, student attendance will count during Comprehensive Distance Learning. Please read the following guidance on how attendance will be tracked:
Teachers will take student attendance daily. Attendance may be counted in a variety of ways to accommodate families who may need to access instruction during different times of the day.
Attending a live teacher-led session
Watching a teacher-recorded video
Interacting with a teacher via email
Posting completed coursework online
Parent/guardian notifications will be sent out at approximately 5 p.m. each day if students haven’t engaged in their school work and have been marked as absent.
Each morning, teachers will access an attendance report and will reconcile any absences from the previous day with any new evidence of engagement during the evening.
Please call the attendance line at 503-356-2601 if your student will be missing school due to illness or medical appointments.
