Tiger Tales from Sanborn School

September 24, 2021

Dear Sanborn Families,

I can't believe that September is almost over and we will soon be welcoming the month of October! Your children have been learning and working hard every day in their classrooms. In addition to your child's classroom learning, we had a successful picture day, and virtual author visit for grades 1-3 this month. Please enjoy some photos below. We have a new head custodian starting Monday at Sanborn School after Alex Hernandez accepted the head custodian position at Carl Sandburg Junior High School. Mr. William Thomas will be our new head custodian and we are excited that Mr. Thomas is joining our school staff.

As you read through this newsletter, please let me know if you have any questions. I appreciate our partnership to ensure a wonderful and safe learning environment for your children.

Warmly,

Kate Arenberg, Principal

From D15 Nutrition Services

Due to supply chain issues, we are unable to serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at our schools. We hope to have them back in stock soon, but in the meantime, we will be serving Protein Power Packs so students will have a vegetarian option.

We know many families print off their menus for the month. Please note that if we have to change an offering due to the shortage, we will update menus online each Friday so families will know if there are any changes for the following week. Please check regularly if your child has a favorite that may be in short supply.

Sanborn Spirit Wear Store!

Check out our Sanborn Spirit Wear Store! The store will be open until September 30th.

Erin's Law Information

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The Comprehensive Health Education Act often referred to as “Erin’s Law” was passed by the Illinois state legislature on January 24, 2013. This law requires that age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault prevention education is included in grades pre-kindergarten through 12.

Before winter break, your school will provide age-appropriate lessons on personal safety awareness and prevention. There will be a classroom-based lesson informing students about how to protect themselves from being a victim, identifying people you can trust, handling unsafe situations, and dealing with methods abusers use to keep victims silent.

To provide you with information about the law, parent information about the topic and a preview of what your student will learn in class, materials including the PowerPoint lesson to be used in class are available on the district website. There will also be copies of the classroom lesson materials available in the school office. These can be emailed to you at your request. Please contact your school’s office to request an electronic copy of these materials should you wish to review them.

If you do NOT wish your child to participate in the “Erin’s Law” lesson, please email your child’s teacher and indicate as such. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate in this program.

Please feel free to contact me If you have any questions or concerns about the “Erin’s Law” lesson. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to provide learning opportunities to improve the safety and well being of our children.

Sincerely,

Kate Arenberg, Principal

REQUEST TO OPT-OUT OF ERIN’S LAW PRESENTATION

  • Today’s Date:

Estimados Padres y Tutores:

Atentamente,

Kate Arenberg, Principal
