It was passed by the British Parliament
It required the colonies to pay taxes on anything that had a stamp on it
The purpose was to pay troops in North America after the seven year war
The Colonists Response
The stamp act was unpopular
Colonists thought it violated there rights
Some even protested in Maryland
The tax was never collected
