Bus Safety Reminders
Over the past several weeks, we have seen an increase in reports of unsafe behavior on our buses. After reviewing bus video, I have observed students out of their seats while the bus is moving, students kneeling and turned around, crawling under seats, etc. While these behaviors have been addressed, I wanted to review the expectations for safe, appropriate bus behavior with all of our students. As you know, it is our priority to make sure the bus ride is safe. When bus incidents are reported, we work with our students and families to make sure the behavior is addressed, and to ensure a safe bus ride for all.
The following bus safety expectations (at bus stops & while riding) were reviewed:
- Student responsibility and the idea of integrity - making sure we are doing the right thing and making the right choice, even when nobody is watching.
- Following the directions of the bus driver.
- Following the bus safety rules.
- Following the Doyle 5, especially Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation, and Citizenship on the bus
- Being respectful, using kind, and appropriate words and language.
- Staying seated in their seats, at all times; only moving when the bus has reached the student's designated bus stop.
- Keeping hands and feet to ourselves; no fooling around or playing games with involving hands/feet, crawling over/under seats, hide and seek, etc.
- No eating or drinking on the bus.
- Laptops/electronics should be placed in backpacks and not used on the bus.
Moving forward, our students will have the opportunity to earn Wing Tips from the bus drivers for following the Doyle 5 and the safety rules on the buses. Winners will be selected each week. Parents/ Guardians, we ask for your support in reviewing the expectations with your child at home. We thank you for your support as we continue to ensure safe bus transportation for our students.
