Principal Message: Welcome Jennifer Witcher - Clinic Aide
Please welcome Ms. Witcher as our new clinic aide at GRE. Miss Jennifer, as she likes the kids to call her, is filling the shoes of retiring Judy Butterfield. Ms. Witcher received her LPN in Nursing from Ohio University. She is currently working on her RN certification.
Previously, Ms. Witcher has been a nurse in a nursing home, performing a variety of tasks. In addition, she has worked as a home health aid and part-time as a lead supervisor of customer service at a large cleaning service.
In her free time, Ms. Witcher enjoys shopping, spending time with family, and watching movies. Her favorite food is pizza.
Join me in welcoming her to Glacier Ridge.
Thank you,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal

Picture Retakes and Make-up day
Wednesday, October 26 is picture make-up and retake day. If your child was absent on the first picture day, 9/21/22, he/she will be photographed on October 26. If you purchased a packet on the original day and wish to have the picture retaken, please send the packet back to school with your child on retake day. HRImaging will retake the picture and print a new packet in exchange for the one you return.
If you have any questions you can contact HRImaging directly at 815-433-1766.
Flu & Illness
As you may be aware, our country is in the midst of flu season and Dublin City Schools is no exception. The District is seeing numerous cases of students who are ill with the flu or flu-like symptoms.
Common symptoms of influenza (flu) include fever, headache, muscle and body aches, chills, sore throat, exhaustion and dry cough. Children may also have nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Please contact your family physician if your child shows signs of the flu.
What can you do to help prevent the spread of the flu?
You can talk with your family about practicing good health habits such as:
- -Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can also be used if soap and water is not available.
- -Cover mouth and nose into the inside of the elbow or with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dispose of the tissue immediately into the trash.
- -Avoid touching the “T zone”- eyes, nose and mouth.
- -Avoid sharing drinks, water bottles, eating utensils and cell phones.
- -Keep your sick child home from school until he/she has been fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication). It is important for your ill child to get rest and drink plenty of fluids.
- -Keep your child home from school until he/she has been free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours without medication. At home, disinfect frequently touched surfaces, toys and commonly shared items.
- -Wash contaminated clothing or linen immediately with detergent at the maximum available cycle length and then machine dry.
The well-being of our students is our top priority. The District continually works to prevent the spread of the flu and all illnesses at the building level. The custodial staff is notified of classrooms with a large number of reported cases so that the appropriate classrooms and common areas can be cleaned and disinfected according to protocol.
Student Absences: Thanks for calling, but we need a note!
If your child will be absent from school, late to school, or leaving early, please notify the office in writing whenever possible. Email notification is the preferred and most effective way.
To notify the office of an absence, please do one of the following:
Email the attendance line at gres_attendance@dublinschools.net
Complete an absence notification form (forms are located in the office or vestibule)
Send a note and/or medical excuse with your child upon their return
Want it to be excused?: Please note that for any absence to be excused it must be received in writing AND fall into one of the following excused absence conditions: personal illness, illness in the family requiring the presence of the child, quarantine of the home, death in the family, observation or celebration of a religious holiday, national "take your child to work day", and travel (up to 4 days per school year) to participate in a district-approved enrichment activity. If your child is out for a reason not specified above, the absence will still be marked as an unexcused absence and you will still receive an automated phone call; however, notification is still much appreciated to help us account for the safety of our students.
Girl Scout Costume Collection
The Girl Scouts from Troop 6219 are collecting new or gently used costumes for students in need. There is a box in the GRE commons by the front door. The costumes benefit the Run the Race charity. The costume drive ends on Nov. 7th. Any post Halloween costumes you would like to donate will be put to good use.
Costumes will be donated to the Run the Race organization which provides snacks, tutoring, sports, and extracurricular activities to inner city students in need.
Candy Give Back - November 1-7
Donate your leftover Halloween candy to support Feed The Kids Columbus. FTKC is a non-profit working to serve and advocate for children in Central Ohio with food insecurities, including students in DCS. Your treat will be added to food bags given to hungry kiddos.
GRE Lost & Found
It's that time of year where kids are bundled up in coats and hats for the morning commute, only to find them in t-shirts and shorts by the time they come home!
Check out the GRE Fall Lost & Found and have your children stop by the table outside the clinic to claim their items. Unclaimed items will be donated on 10/27.
Veterans Day Celebration 2022
The students and staff of Glacier Ridge Elementary are excited for our annual Veterans Day Celebration. This year our celebration will be held on Friday, November 11th at 9:25 AM. Veterans, as special guests of our Glacier Ridge students and staff, are invited to attend. We will honor our veterans with an assembly, followed by a brief reception on the playground. GRE students are encouraged to invite a family member who is a veteran.
In preparation for this day, we ask that anyone in our GRE family who would like to bring a veteran, please RSVP. This will allow us to properly plan for and recognize each of our guests.
RSVP before Wednesday, November 2 by completing this form.
PLEASE NOTE - Registration is necessary in order to plan appropriate seating and support. Family members are welcome to attend along with our veteran guests; however, seating may be limited for additional family.
Family Conference Information - Virtual or In-Person
Our family conferences are coming up on October 20 & 26th. We will offer both in-person or virtual options. Your child’s teacher will reach out soon (if not already) to begin scheduling your conference. Cramming all conferences into a two evening window can often feel rushed. Therefore, in addition to those dedicated two evenings, we have a month and a half long window for teachers to conduct conferences with families.
During conferences, your child’s teacher will address three main criteria:
What I know about your child as a learner and a person
Evidence of ways I’ve gotten to know your child using formal and informal data
Next instructional steps for instruction
If you have specific questions about your child that you want the teacher to prepare for and address within the allotted time, please reach out to let them know.
