Capturing Kids' Hearts Tip: Social Contracts
Reflective Question:
Have you built and posted the Social Contract for your classes?
Tips:
- Refer to the contract often (don’t just refer to it negatively; refer to it in positive ways too).
- “We have ‘Effort’ listed on our contract; I love how hard everyone worked today.”
- “We have ‘Participate’ on our contract; thanks for raising your hands and asking great questions.”
- “John, thanks for helping Paul today; I appreciate you modeling the contract.”
- All contracts should include: Effort, Listening, and No Put Downs.
- Hang the contract in a visible place in the classroom.
- Teach the 3 nonverbal signs.
Important Information
TCMPC TEKS Guide Pilot thru September 6th
We are piloting a teacher resource called TEKS Guide until September 6th. This resource was created by Region 13 to compliment TEKS Resource System. Please use the resource over the next couple weeks and provide feedback to your administrator. If teachers feel that the resource is useful then we will purchase it for the district. Keep in mind this is an aligned resource and should not replace what the PLC decides is best for your students.
Click the following link to access: www.texguide.net (you have to login with your FISD Google Login)
TExGuide provides teachers with a bridge between curriculum, aligned resources, and instructional planning, and increase the efficiency and quality of lesson planning for teachers, which directly impact student learning outcomes.
TExGuides are aligned with TEKS Resource System curriculum, including the scope and sequence of instructional units. Each HyperDoc includes:
· Unit overview and key understandings.
· Unit vocabulary with corresponding activities.
· Student expectations with aligned engagement activities and sample learning.
· Experiences and formative assessments.
· Sample unit assessments.
· Unit resources.
· Relevant professional development opportunities.
Please contact me if some of your teachers need access.
Respectfully,
Chris Galloway, Ph.D.

Discovery Education
A Discovery Education account has been created for all teachers on campus. All usernames have been updated to your FISD email to make it easier for all of us to remember. If you have forgotten your password, simply click forgot password on the main screen and a temporary password will be emailed to you. If you’re new to the district or have never had a Discovery Education account your temporary password is tigers (case sensitive). You can change this once you access Discovery Education. If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to stop by the library and ask Ms. Gailey or Tara Jacobs.
Intervention Materials Task Force
The district is seeking campus representation on the Intervention Materials Task Force. This group is being formed to evaluate intervention materials specifically for Reading and Mathematics.
Based on the TASB Employee Opinion Survey, staff indicated there were not sufficient resources to assist with special populations.
This group will provide input on possible resources that can be purchased for use to intervene with our special populations of students. This includes addressing all subpops of students and special programs (RTI, SPED, Dyslexia, ELs, etc.) This team of individuals will meet once a month for the next 3 months in order to review materials and provide input.
Please nominate yourself or someone else to serve on the Intervention Materials Task Force.
If this topic on the survey was an area of concern for you, please submit your name to join the group using this link:
