half a head of cabbage
1 package spice only soup mix (optional, but try to keep it as low in sodium as possible)
1 cube of low sodium bouillon
1 48oz can Low Sodium V8 juice (optional)
Season to taste with pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc. (Little to NO SALT!)
*At least 4 glasses of water per day*
Pros and Cons
Pros: You’ll lose weight fast, and for the week, you can eat as much of the foods listed in the program as you want. Although the diet is only for seven days (and shouldn’t be followed for longer), it provides a great “kick-start” for a more moderate diet.
Cons: Some people find the soup bland. Others report feeling light-headed, weak, and have suffered from decreased concentration (although I hear that many people think the diet is worth the effort anyway, since they lose so much weight!).
Long Term Health Issues with this Diet
1. Starvation
2. Fatigue
3. Flatulence
4. Frequent Urination
5. Faintness
6. Moodiness
It is also suggested that you do not go on this diet longer than one week at a time. The cabbage soup diet is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to continue for longer than this.
*Not recommended for children and adolescents.*
Whats Missing?
This diet lacks protein and sugar, therefore it does not offer a sufficient, well- rounded diet.
This diet only includes vegetables. Due to lack of sugar on many days during the "seven Day Plan" this diet is not recommended for those who suffer from diabetes.
