Trade School Teacher Carpentry and Building 2006–current
Holmesglen Tafe
Trade teacher in carpentry and building apprenticeships, certificate and diploma courses.
Responsibilities
Facilitating the learning of requisite skills and knowledge in all aspects of carpentry and building. This includes:
- Teaching learners of diverse backgrounds and skills the requisite learning to gain knowledge in all aspect of carpentry, joinery and building
- Curriculum development

Achievements
- In 2006 and 2007 I helped to establish the 'Specialist Center for Heritage Trades', an initiative by Holmesglen Tafe, to provide heritage skills and training
- Participated in the 'Heritage Materials Technology Workshop' held in August 2007 at 'Latrobe Hospital' in Beachworth Victoria. This workshop was hosted by David Young, OMA Heritage consultant, and Greg Owen of Period Building Conservation Pty. Ltd.
- Managed and facilitated 'The Black Saturday Bush Fire Relief Program', a Holmesglen initiative to provide construction work for those who have suffered during the bush-fires and lost their homes. This included the restoration of a stone cottage for Mr Rob Hellet of Narbethong.

Provide consulting and specialty carpentry services in heritage restoration.
Responsibilities
In-between teaching carpentry to apprentices, I operate a small joinery workshop to:
- manufacture traditional timber double-hung sash windows and four panel doors
- reproduce heritage style skirting, architraves and a variety of timber mouldings, to match original profiles, using a four-sided moulding machine
I am skilled in:
- traditional wood-turning
- heritage metal sand-casting
- the restoration of vintage wood-working machinery
- researching and collecting historical carpentry and joinery literature (and own a significant collection of antique trade related catalogues, books and ephemera).
I provide heritage advice on restorations for private clients, architects and builders.
Building works and joinery include:
Renovations, extensions (single, double and underground), bathrooms and new homes
Re-stumping, underpinning, re-blocking, verandahs, pergolas, decks and structural alterations
Tiling, flooring, solid plastering, brick laying and all facets of on-site carpentry
Frames, lock up and fix, truss and pitched roofs
Foundations, footing, form-work, concrete slabs
