What's Coming Up
Dear Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving with their family. Here is what is going on in our preschool classroom this month: our theme this month is focused on celebrations. We will be celebrating a few holidays in our classroom: Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas. We will be focusing on gingerbread people during the first week and as a class will decorate a large gingerbread person. We will also begin talking about the change in season from Fall to Winter(Science, Social Studies). We will continue working on familiarizing and writing our first names, along with some letters and numbers (Literacy, Math) We will be counting quantities up to 10 and work on cutting and pasting (Math, Fine Motor). Our color of the month is red and our shape of the month is rectangle, be sure to ask your child about Ricky Rectangle.
During the month we will be reading a variety of books related to our theme for this month and be on the lookout for this months book order forms from Scholastic (Due back December 10th to ensure orders will be in before the winter break). Again any questions or concerns please feel free to send an e-mail to kasey.girton@chariho.k12.ri.us at any point.
There will be no home project this month as I know many families are busy.
We hope everyone enjoys their winter break and has a safe and wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely,
Miss Girton, Miss Jen, and Miss Vicky
Songs we will be singing this month...
Gingerbread Man Finger Play
stir a bowl of gingerbread (stir as in a bowl)
Smooth and spicy brown
Roll it with a rolling pin (roll as if with a rolling pin)
Up and up and down
With a cookie cutter (pretend to cut cookie)
Make some little men.
Put them in the oven (put pan in the oven)
Until half past ten.
To celebrate Hanukkah:
The Dreidel Song
Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then, dreidel I will play.
To celebrate Kwanzaa:
KWANZAA’S HERE
(Tune: Three Blind Mice)
Red, green, black,
Red, green, black.
Kwanzaa’s here,
Kwanzaa’s here.
The decorations are quite a sight.
We light a candle every night.
The holiday is filled with light.
Kwanzaa’s here!
To celebrate Christmas:
Five Little Bells
Five little bells hanging in a row.
The first one said, "Ring me slow."
The second one said, "Ring me fast."
The third one said, "Ring me last."
The fourth one said, "I'm a chime."
The fifth one said, "Ring me at Christmas time."
The sixth one said, "Ring me with the others."
The seventh one said, "Ring me for the mothers."
The eighth one said, "Ring me with a song."
The ninth one said, "Ring me all day long."
