Mrs. Bushman's Kindergarten Class
October Newsletter
HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!
We have had such a wonderful month here in kindergarten! We have learned many new and exciting things both inside and outside of the classroom!
ALL THINGS READING
We started off the month by learning about what it means to be a good friend to others. We discussed how to make new friends and how to keep the old ones! We also discussed the importance of following rules both at school and at home. Buster the Bus came to visit and taught us all of the important safety rules for riding a bus. We also learned all about fire safety and took a walking field trip to the Catonsville Firehouse. We learned about all of the equipment on a fire truck and even got to go inside the fire truck! Deandre had a great time jumping out of the fire truck, as you can see in the picture! We've been discussing the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts, specifically fantasy stories vs. informational texts. We've also been learning about our five senses and making personal connections to the things we see, smell, touch, taste, and hear at the beach and during the fall season. We learned new strategies for reading and writing like using picture clues, asking and answering questions as we read, identifying periods and exclamation points, discussing the main topic and key details, and identifying sight words. We ended our month learning all about pumpkins. We even got to visit Farmer Stan at the Maryland Agriculture Center where we learned all about different crops that are grown in the fall! We had a blast!
We had such a fun time at the Maryland Agriculture Center!
Music helps us learn!
As always, we have been incorporating new songs into our learning! Ask your child about the song we sing in order to remember how to write our names on our work! You can also ask them to repeat our “Thank You Pledge” (for center time), our Weather Song, and the songs we learned for writing each of the numbers 0-10!
