Principal's Message
The District published information at the end of the week regarding school start and end times for when we move to reopening our schools to In-Person Hybrid Learning. The following information applies to ISB (both middle school and high school):
Option Schools
- Full-day In-Person Hybrid Instruction Session: 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Students attending hybrid instruction will be assigned to attendance groups and will attend two out of four days per week, with Wednesdays continuing to be asynchronous learning days for students in Hybrid and in CDL. Attendance cohorts for middle, high, option and K8 Grades 6-8 (only) will be assigned by the District in the coming weeks. If you have not done so, please inform the District about your decision for your child to participate in In-Person Hybrid Learning or to continue in CDL. See the article in this newsletter with directions for informing us of your decision.
As the return to in-person learning approaches, we are evaluating all aspects of the school from a safety lens. For example, Assistant Principal Gladney knows the square footage of each classroom and/or learning space and he has determined how many people can occupy each space and maintain the requirement that people stay six feet apart. Before teachers and students return, traffic patterns in the halls and throughout the school will be determined and clearly marked to limit interactions between people. Prior to students returning to classroom instruction, we will hold orientation sessions not only to ensure they know the safety protocols but also to orient them to the school itself, as many of our students have never been in the school. Please continue to watch for the District announcements, and do not hesitate to call the school or email me if you have questions.
On another note, the month of March is recognized as Women’s History Month. Though women have often struggled to be recognized for contributions made not only in the home but in business, politics, medicine, science, and sports, women are more and more being recognized for their roles in society. In the last year, as COVID kept us all home looking for ways to be entertained or educated, I stumbled across an OPB showing of Beatrix Farrand’s American Landscapes and learned of one of the pioneering women of the early 20th century. Hers is an amazing story of a woman who was not allowed into university landscape architecture programs because of her gender but who became a renowned landscape designer. She is also known for her advocacy of the value of public gardens and the power of landscapes to improve people’s lives. Like so many other women, her story serves to empower young women to pursue their passions and interests in spite of the barriers they may face.
As always, thank you for your support. Take care.
Sincerely,
Janice Adams

Student Survey
High school students will be surveyed this year by accessing a link through a Canvas announcement. The survey will be available in English and Spanish. The survey window is March 30-June 4.
Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
Student surveys of middle and high schools include three optional questions for students to identify their gender, ethnicity / race, and sexual orientation. These questions allow for additional levels of analysis of questions on inclusion, safety and bullying.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
A copy of the survey is available from your child's school under the Annual Surveys tab and is posted at https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountabiity/research-reports
After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify scott_carey-gladney@beaverton.k12.or.us.
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountabiity/research-reports
Después de revisar la encuesta, si usted no quiere que su hijo participe, por favor notifique a scott_carey-gladney@beaverton.k12.or.us.
Missed Curbside Pick Up?
You can still come to ISB to pick up your student's supplies and materials for second semester Monday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm when school is in session.
When you arrive at ISB in your car, please use the bus drop off lane to pull up to the front of the school. Call the office at 503-356-3690 to let us know you are here. Hold a sign up in the front window with the first and last name of the ISB student(s) clearly visible - large print in bold letters really helps! Open your car's trunk and wait for staff to place your textbooks and materials in it. Staff will be wearing masks and gloves when they do this.
Walking or biking to school to pick up supplies and materials is discouraged at this time due to safety reasons.
