Would you rather, have single gender education or mixed gender education?

The truth??

Research has been done to see the effects, good and bad for single gender and mixed gender classrooms, it turns out that the single gender boys gained more learning than the other mixed classroom gender boys. This may be the truth and start to more single gender school nationwide in the US. Separating girls and boys by their gender... Did your school already start single gender education? Like Physical education, choir, band, etc.?

The side's of no:

Each paragraph is a different persons opinion.

Critics disagree with different gender classrooms, they say that the new regulations would distract or impact other issues such as education funding and smaller class sizes. "When elements of good education are present, girls and boys succeed" says Lisa Maatz of the American Association of University Women.

Some civil rights and also women's organization fear about the single genders because they believed that the rule created an unequal and unfair learning environment.

Every kid is different at school. Some kids are more outgoing than others. Most kids move around while doing work and some kids prefer to sit still. This is why it doesn’t make sense to separate girls and boys by their gender. They think that single gender schools are a fake, or an artificial environment for kids to learn “It doesn’t prepare boys and girls for the real world, where they will have to interact with and work alongside each other” says Kim Gandy the president of the national organizations for women.

Some people believe that if a child is deprived of going to school with going to school with the opposite sex this child will grow up not know how to respond when they do come into contact with the opposite sex. People should understand how this could also be a good thing by possibly cutting back on sexual activities but, children will be children. Just like other laws people want to push the limits so if this were to happen the kids would most likely still be doing everything they do now.

Some people think that single gender schools are a fake, or an artificial environment for kids to learn. "It doesn't prepare boys and girls for the real world, where they will have to interact with and work alongside each other" says Kim Gandy the president of the national organizations for women.

Biological differences doesn’t mean to separate kids by their gender, it could also affect their life of education. School needs to be a environment of learning with different interests and strengths they need to be prepared for the outside world and learn from each other too.

Single gender schools will just increase more judgement between genders. Which means things can get tough between genders like inequality. There would be more social issues going around schools. It's like when you're a child you think the opposite sex haves some type of diseases except you will think that most of your school years. It will affect society in a negative way.

The side of yes:

Segregating boys and girls won't teach them about gender equality but it could force them to sit down and pay attention to geography class instead of passing love letters through the whole class.

One advantage of single gender classrooms is the honesty in dating,"Single gender classrooms allowed girls and boys to engage in discussion about how to make life decisions that would enhance their future academic achievement," says Datnow.

The teachers, principals, and even the parents agreed that single gender classrooms helped the students more than harming the students. Learning it provided less distraction for both genders, better accommodation of each gender's interests, better learning environment for shy or quiet children.

A section of people say that, schools should be separated by gender. This would be healthier for both boys and girls because they could both concentrate on their studies. Also they will not be distracted by the opposite sex or by thinking about the best way to attract their interest in a co-ed environment or how to act right.

In south Carolina public schools grade 2nd - 9th had a positive reply to the experience when 17,00 students were surveyed about the single gender classrooms.
A student cited that they had more self confidence, and participated more when they had single gender classrooms.

What is it like to go to an all girls school?

“I am a teenage girl and I currently go to an all girls school. I think it is a great learning environment and there are far less distractions. I never have to worry about how I look or if I sound stupid with an answer I am unsure about .I have gone to a coed school and I find that there is far more drama there then at an all girls school, which is funny because most people think it is the other way around.”

Opinions of teachers.

" I guess I'm against that, although not strongly. I don't think it would result in students getting a better education. I don't think students would be more focused. I don't think they would try harder. For the subjects studied in school, I don't think boys and girls need to be taught differently. Also, it might result in one gender getting a better education than the other. When we had segregation in the US, they said "separate but equal" was okay for black schools and white schools, but rarely was the education they received truly equal. I do think there is a benefit to educating both genders together and that is that people learn to collaborate with and respect the other gender. Therefore, I would be against single gender education."- Mr.Adams (Social Studies teacher in Team M)
