The Washington Little Rockets Weekly Newsletter

Week of September 19th - September 23rd, 2016

Little Rockets News!

Dear Families,

This week we will have our school pictures taken! Please review the school picture schedule below and refer to the weekly note from your classroom teacher for exact dates for your child's picture. Our EC and Phono programs have some M/W and T/TH students, so we have the need for our picture times to be split into 2 days. Also, it can often take a bit longer to get our young ones to participate in this event! (The photographers need to be very patient!)

I have a note below regarding our playground rules and times that it is accessible by children during their non-school hours. Please understand we have these rules in order to keep everyone safe and make it more manageable to supervise our young children.

Our AM students will experience the first FIRE DRILL of the school year on Monday. We are required to complete one drill per month, and we usually rotate between AM and PM sessions. However, teachers have reviewed the drill procedures with both the AM and PM sessions so students are aware in case of a true emergency.

Have a great week!

Thank you!

Mrs. Stacie Nelson, Principal

Please mark your calendars!

Washington Playground Use

In order to keep everyone safe and to better manage the supervision of our students, please adhere to the following times of use for the Washington Playground:

  • If the playground is occupied by staff and students during our school day, we ask that no other children/families enter the playground during this time.
  • We have AM session from 8:20-11:00; Mid-day recess from 11:00-11:30 (Head Start); Mid-day recess on T/TH from 11:30-12:00 (Phonology); PM session from 12:05-2:45; and after school recess until 4:00 (Head Start).
  • If the playground is not occupied during these times, you are more than welcome to use our fun space. However, if a class comes out while you are on the playground, please understand that you will need to leave the playground during this time.
  • We ask that no food/drinks (except water) be brought onto our playground surface.

Free Dental Screenings and Flouride Application

If your child has free/reduced lunch status, or has BadgerCare, he/she qualifies for a free dental screening and flouride application from TriCounty Dental. Dental screenings will be held at Washington School on Thursday, September 29th for all children that have completed the proper dental forms.

Dental forms were sent home this summer in a mailing from district office. We will also be sending dental forms home this week with all students who show up in our system as free/reduced status.

If you HAVE NOT completed the free/reduced application and feel you may qualify for this, please contact Mrs. Calkins in the office to get another application. You will need to complete the free/reduced forms AND the dental forms in order to be eligible for the free dental screening.

Please contact our office at 751-6990 for more information.

Student Absence Procedure

If your child will be absent from school, you will need to call the Washington School OFFICE at 751-6990 to inform us of this absence. If you call and need to leave a message, please leave the following information:

  • Child's name
  • Child's teacher
  • Reason for absence

We will record this information in our attendance system, and let your child's teacher know.

If you do not call the office, you should expect a call from us.

Please let us know if you have any specific questions!

Franklin Ave update & Parking Information

As a reminder, our parking lot is open for parents/visitors to park in. Please abide by the ONE-WAY signs to get in and out of our parking lot.

PLEASE enter and drive slowly in and out of our parking lot as well as on Franklin Ave. and Columbian Ave. while children are present.
