Pillars of Character
Leo C. has been nominated by the 6th Grade Team for the Pillar of Responsibility. Leo is a problem solver who meets challenges with a growth mindset and perseverance–his teachers admire that about him. He always works hard and models the attitude and types of behaviors that lead to success in the classroom. He is polite and respectful of his teachers and classmates. Fitzroy H-W. has been nominated by the Core Team for the Pillar of Caring. Fitz can be seen asking how he can help; how he can make situations better for those around him. Anyone who knows Fitz, whether staff or student, can recognize his caring voice as he walks the halls of PRM. Ramy M. has been nominated by the 8th grade team for the Pillar of Fairness. Ramy is open-minded and treats everyone as an equal and with great respect. It is hard to pass Ramy in the halls without smiling. Mackenzie M. has been nominated by the 8th grade team for the Pillar of Caring. Mackenzie has a warm smile for both classmates and teachers. She displays compassion and empathy for those she encounters. Thank you Mackenzie for showing such kindness. Victoria S. has been nominated by the 8th grade team for the Pillar of Responsibility. Victoria is an extremely conscientious student in all subject areas. She perseveres, always gives it her best, and is someone both friends and teachers can count on. Samantha G. has been nominated by the 8th grade team for the Pillar of Citizenship. Samantha embodies the attributes of a good citizen: truthfulness, justice, and respect for oneself and others. She knows what it takes to be part of a community. Erika W. has been nominated by the 8th grade team for the Pillar of Citizenship. Erika is honest, has integrity, and shows responsibility for her actions. To have a student who is so morally upright makes our school community a better place.
Points for Parents
Curriculum Focus Group Meeting
For PRM students, the curriculum updates pertain to our 8th grade health program. No updates were necessary in our 6th and 7th grade curricula, and the updates only affect portions of seven lessons in the marking-period-length 8th grade health class; the vast majority of the course remains as it was.
Since some of our students have already had health this year, while others will have health in the fourth marking period, the rollout of the updated curriculum will happen differently depending on whether or not students have had health yet. Regardless of when a student's health course was scheduled this year, parents will have the opportunity to opt their children out of the updated health lessons if they choose to do so. We will discuss all of this at the Curriculum Focus Group meeting on February 2nd.
Additionally, we sent these letters to parents of 8th grade students (one to parents of students who have not yet had health class and one to parents of students who had it earlier this year) regarding the updated health curriculum and the opportunity to opt out:
- for families whose 8th grade students will have health class in the 4th marking period
- for families whose 8th grade students already had health class this year
We hope you can join us for the Curriculum Focus Group meeting on Thursday, February 2nd.
