Cultural Fair- April 25th
Big Hollow is hosting its first annual Cultural Fair! We will celebrate cultures from around the world. In order for this event to be successful we need YOU to participate!! We have 30 languages spoken in the Big Hollow community and would LOVE for each to be represented at the fair. We would like to invite any interested parent or family member to participate with their Big Hollow student(s). The event will take place after school, 5:00pm-6:30pm, and will provide our students an opportunity to experience the different cultures and countries represented by our Big Hollow community.
The fair will consist of tables or “booths” that represent cultures and/or countries from around the world. Click here to access the flyer that was sent home to parents!

Big Hollow Elementary's 1st Annual Book Swap
Here are the details:
What: 1st Annual Book Swap
When: Tuesday, May 22nd & Wednesday, May 23rd
***(Please send in gently used books the week of May 14th-18th)
Why: So every child at BH can read books over the summer!!!!!!!!
This is what will be shared with parents:
Please send your child to school with some, or all, of your gently used books (no limit) that could use a new home. Your child will earn a special Starbuck for each book (up to 10). You may send books in bags or boxes and your child may bring them to his/her classroom teacher. On the days of the Book Swap, your child will get to “purchase” new, gently used books with his/her special Starbucks!!
Our hope is that we will have an overflow of awesome books from all of the amazing
Big Hollow families, so that every student will go home for the summer with new, gently used books (even if a student could not donate books)!!!

Last show of the year! :)
Hello Everyone!
Please join us for a special performance! The 3rd graders will be singing songs from their upcoming concert, "The Invention Convention!"
We will be having a dress rehearsal at the following dates/times. Each performance will be in the elementary gym from 2:35-3:05. All students (including 3rd graders) will be dismissed back to their classrooms at 3:05. So there is no need to bring everyone with their end of the day belongings :) There will be time to head back to the classrooms before dismissal.
We hope to see you there! Thank you for your support!

School Mission and Vision
The Building Leadership Team met on Friday 3/2 and continued our discussion of our mission and vision for our school.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE AND SHARE OUR FIRST DRAFT OF OUR VISION STATEMENT!!!! The vision statement encompasses where we want to be as a school in five years. It is our overarching goal.
Please review with your teams- we would love your feedback!!!
OUR VISION IS TO CREATE A GROWTH-ORIENTED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HIGHLY REGARDED FOR DEVELOPING WELL-ROUNDED AND EMPATHETIC LEARNERS.
Academic Learning Supports Team Process
2. If in fact you try the interventions and suggestions provided by the Teachers Helping Teachers team, and do not see an improvement in the child's performance, you may then complete the Academic Learning Supports Team form and submit required documentation to Michelle Dzik or Jane Wiorkowski. At that time, the ALS Team will review the documentation and determine IF a child is in need of an evaluation. The team may also determine that other inteventions should be attempted BEFORE possibly moving forward for an evaluation. Please know that the goal of the ALST team is not to solely evaluate students, but to support you and the student and exhaust all interventions and options before possibly moving to that step. Sometimes the outcome of collecting and submitting the data to the ALS Team will result in a child being evaluated, however.
If you have any questions please come see Michelle. :) Thanks!
