The Quartering Act allowed royal troops to stay in houses or empty buildings ,barracks(a building used to hold soldiers) were not available. The Quartering Act took place in 1765.Parliament passed the act and it stated that the British troops that were in the colonies will be living in barracks.
Until the number of people in the troops were overwhelmed and overcrowded the facilities,as a result they could stay in private commercial property, like places that did not have a lot of people and were unpopulated. Owners would be required to provide soldiers with certain necessities such as food, liquor, salt, and bedding, without compensation.
