PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Hello Aitken families,
As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King reads: "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically."
The forecast for next week is for cooler temperatures and inclement weather. Please ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate winter weather gear.
Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Support system (PBIS), and the main components of it include: "Safe, Respectful & Responsible" behavior in all classrooms, the cafeteria, the recess yard, and the bus. As parents and staff members, it is important to model safe, responsible and respectful behaviors, as the children look to the adults to model appropriate behavior.
Please review the Parent Reminders below:
- Please help us to keep the grass and fields that surround Aitken in good condition. Many vehicles have been parking on the grass, or driving on the fields, resulting in deep tire treads embedded in the field. Our students will be using these fields when the weather warms up, and we want to ensure that they have a safe and appropriate place to play.
- School starts at 8:45. Drop off prior to this time is not recommended as your child will not be supervised by school staff prior to 8:45.
- If your child has a change in their dismissal status (i.e. taking the bus and is not going to Champions), please notify the Main Office no later than 11:00 to ensure that proper arrangements are made with the Main Office.
- Please yield to our pedestrians when picking up and dropping off your child.
- If you wish to pick up your child in person, please park your vehicle in a designated area, and not on the roadway. Parking and leaving your vehicle in the roadway is strictly prohibited.
- Only certified service animals are allowed on the Aitken property. If you have any questions, please contact the main office at Aitken.
- We ask that all parents who drop-off at the 1st grade entrance, please open the car door for your child when they exit the vehicle. This will make for a safer and smoother drop-off routine.
- If you are picking up your child near the "garage door area," please be mindful that classes and active learning is going on until 3:05. We ask that parents are courteous and respectful of the second graders in that classroom that are trying to learn, and need to be free of noise and distractions.
- Please be mindful of your child's after-school activities related to safety on the Aitken playground. We want parents and families to enjoy the Aitken playground, courtyard and field, but we ask that everyone ensure that their children enjoy the playground safely.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out anytime.
