DARE PROGRAM

Our 5th graders are working with Officer Bill Lintner to complete the DARE Program. Their "graduation" will be celebrated on Monday, March 9th. Officer Lintner meets with each of our 5th grade classes for one hour each Friday. Their time is spent in conversations about standing up to peer pressure, making healthy choices, using a positive decision-making model, and showing respect for self and others.

The DARE Program Mission is:

“Teaching students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives.”

The updated DARE core curriculum - ‘Keepin’ it REAL,' takes a hands-on, social influence approach that emphasizes and aims to strengthen children’s refusal skills so they can better resist social pressures.

By helping students learn of ways to avoid dangerous situations, recognize and resist direct and subtle pressures that may influence bad choices, and by learning social skills that will help enhance their self-esteem, the students are expected to become the future role models of their schools and neighborhoods.

40 BOOK CHALLENGE

Please continue to encourage your child to READ and record the books for the Olson 40 Book Challenge. Last Friday the following 15 students were randomly selected from all of the student raffle tickets entered since the start of the year.
