~It was in orbit for 15 years and that was at least 3 times longer than it was expected
~While in orbit it suffered dangerous fires, a nearly catastrophic collision, and darkened periods of out of control tumbling
~The space station itself orbited earth more than 86,000 times in its lifetime
The sections and crew facts
~In mir's core is where the crew lives and docking ports which are used for resupply vehicles
~It is only able to hold 3 people but at sometimes it had six people living on it
~It was in orbit for about 15 years which was at least 3 times longer than it was expected
~According to NASA there are 52 computers just for the US segment and 100 data networks transferring 400,000 signals

~But with some visiting shuttles on the space station it at one time weighed about 250 tons
~Mir is the longest lasting, most elaborate space station to date
~It took about 136 space flights on seven different types of launch vehicles to build it
~So far 211 people from 15 countries have visited it before

~It flies so fast that it could take the ship about a day to go to the moon and back
