Fragile X Syndrome

Fragile X Syndrome is a genetic condition that causes many developmental issues such as cognitive impairment and learning disabilities and effects males more than it does females. It effects 1 in every 4,000 males and 1 in every 8,000 females.

A genetic test called the polymerase chain reaction is performed to diagnose those with this syndrome. The test looks for an expanded mutation in the FMR1 gene.
