One School One Book update
Huge changes for our robot Roz in this week's reading. Roz has become the mother of a gosling and after making friends with the Beaver and Deer families, the animals no longer see her as a monster. Brightbill, Roz's son, has learned how to swim and fly and made friends with Chitchat, the squirrel. The trio love to go exploring and one day Brightbill spotted a ship. Will a ship bring danger to Roz and the islanders? Or will it just pass by?
Students are enjoying hearing about Roz and Brightbill's adventure and more adventure is coming next week. Remember you can listen with your children at home at night (link on the website) or ask them what happened in the story each day.
We thank you for your continued support for our work at Middlebrook School! As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at dponte@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4411.
Warm regards,
~Debbie Ponte
Grade 3 Engineering
This week, grade 3 classes were working on engineering in the library, designing and building structures with various materials in the library. When reflecting on why they enjoyed their activities, students shared that: "It makes you feel like you're doing actual construction", "It lets your imagination run wild", "It keeps me calm", and there are "endless things that you can do or make". Here are some photos of the creations that students made.

A Message From Trumbull EMS
Messages From the 5th Grade Activities Committee
Hello 5th Graders & Families,
We have been continuing to plan activities and events for the kids throughout this year and each event costs a fee, depending on the event type and location. The Committee is also responsible for organizing many of the End of Year activities such as:
· End of year Graduation Party at Beaches Pool
· Graduation decorations and slideshow
· Graduation T-shirts and Yard Signs for each child
· School Plaque Presented to Principal at Graduation
· Class Gift/Project to the school
· End of Year Talent Show
To help with the above end of year costs, we are asking for each 5th grader to pay a one-time end of year activity fee of $25.00. To pay for this fee, you can go to Membership Toolkit at: https://middlebrookelementarypta.membershiptoolkit.com/form/m/166166

Art Room News
We have been very busy creating in the Art room! Students have been having fun exploring a variety of art materials and techniques. Here are some of the things we have been working on. If you would like to see more of the amazing art we are creating, please follow Middlebrook’s Instagram account: mb_artroom.
Kindergarten: Students just completed their unit on color families and color mixing. We created a color wheel by mixing the primary colors to make the secondary colors, and turned our color wheels into sea turtles.
Grade 1: Students were excited to learn a new skill in a paper weaving lesson. We turned our weavings in to adorable house collages.
Grade 2: Students welcomed Spring by creating bunnies in colorful gardens. We worked with line, shape, overlapping, and texture.
Grade 3: Students created beautiful woven rainbows. This was a fun and challenging lesson. A warm or cool color sky was selected for the loom to show time of day, then we learned how to weave yarn.
Grade 4: Students just completed a printmaking unit. They were able to select any image, learned how to create a Styrofoam printing plate, then made prints using a marker printing technique. At the end of the unit, students had fun trading extra prints with one another.
Grade 5: Students just completed a radial weaving unit. They created a flower with a yarn-woven center, then creatively incorporated their weaving into a collage. They worked very hard on this lesson, and I'm so proud of how they turned out!
* Art portfolios will be sent home at the end of May. Your child will be bringing home all of their beautiful creations from the year. This is always an exciting time for Middlebrook artists!
