What a great week it was, as we had fun at Math Night and celebrated Veterans Day this past week. Your kids continue to amaze us!

Next week is another busy week. We are beginning the 3rd Six Weeks, celebrating Thanksgiving with a special lunch, report cards go home, and it is Generation TX week. We will discuss goals and learn about various colleges to get students excited about what is ahead. Students may wear college shirts or colors each day of the week to celebrate. Of course, you may stick where your loyalties lie ;)....

  • Monday - Maroon
  • Tuesday - Red
  • Wednesday - Orange
  • Thursday - Green
  • Friday - Purple

Please RSVP with your child's teacher if you will be purchasing Thanksgiving lunch on Tuesday, November 17th, so we can get a count to the cafeteria.

What's Happening...

In the Classroom:

Language Arts - We have completed our Author Study on Chris Van Allsburg. Next week, we begin our DBQ on Cabeza de Vaca. Students will analyze non-fiction text to draw conclusions about how de Vaca survived. Then, they will discover how to organize their learning and thoughts to write an essay. This will be a three week study that we will continue after Thanksgiving break.

Math - We will wrap up Module 4 next week, learning more about division. Students are expected to be able to divide to find whole number quotients with remainders. Students can use an area model with partitions to help them solve number sentences and word problems. For more information about the module, view the parent letter. Continue studying multiplication facts and logging into Stride Academy for individualized support. Study ideas here.

Science - We begin our Solar House Problem-Based Learning next week that will take us to our winter break. Students will learn about passive solar energy, reinforce concepts of conductors and insulators, and the Engineering Design Process as they research, design, build, test and redesign a model Solar House.

Report Cards, Grades, & Attendance....

Did you know that you can access your child's information at the Home Access Center? You can set customized alerts if your child is missing an assignment or has a certain grade. There is even an app for that! If you are unsure of your login, please contact the front office to help.

What's my login?

Access Moodle at home at moodle.nisdtx.org. Students' login is: firstname.lastname and password is their student ID number.

Under "My Courses", they can click on K.Dwyer - 4th for the course to find the Texas Symbols forum.

We are excited for more to come on that.
