Causes of WWI
Not your everyday immediate causes of war
Nationalism
Many men wanted to show their patriotic support for their countries by contributing in the war effort.
Militarlism
Countries wanted bigger and better navies, so when they built them up, other countries felt threatened.
Alliances
Many countries were making secret alliances with other countries in Europe.
To sum it all up...
All of the listed causes above contributed to tension arising in the eastern hemisphere, causing Europe to go into a war-filled downward spiral. Many counties still wanted to be imperialist countries, by taking over weaker territories. This was the case when Austria tried to take over Serbia, which led to the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand. This infuriated Austria, causing them to go to war, with the support of Germany. Little did they know, Serbia was backed by Russia, who was backed by England.
