Deforestation
Deforestation And How It Relates To The Lithosphere
What is Deforestation And How Does it Affect the Lithosphere?
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. It is this that rips up trees, destroys habitats, and clears land for human needs such as agriculture. There have been laws passed to prevent this and action done to try and stop it, yet it continues to occur. (picture: http://art-saloon.ru/en/comment.aspx?ItemID=3000)
As most people should know, the lithosphere is the ridged outer part of the earth which consist of the crust and the upper mantle. It is what everyone is standing and living on. Deforestation relates to the lithosphere because forests grow, replenish, and thrive on this, just as humans do, and then their being cut down to make way for cities, logging, and other things. Everything rest atop the lithosphere, especially nature. People are destroying the lithosphere when they destroy nature. (picture: http://www.edupic.net/sci_gr.htm)

Mining
Mines can disrupt or destroy habitats, wipe out plants in the area, they can pollute rivers, and more just to make room for the mine. Waste is also a big issue, causing even more pollution and a lot of gases are put into the air from the machinery and trucks. (picture: http://clipgid.com/mining-clipart.html)
Erosion
While erosion is natural, it still greatly impacts the environment. It disrupts soil, picks up dirt and dust, and can cause landslides. Hills that might not have much vegetation, gravity cause the soil, which has nothing to hold on to, to tumble down, sometimes creating a landslide. Water can erode river banks and hills as well, taking the topsoil with it. (picture: http://educators.brainpop.com/bp-topic/erosion/)
Urbanization
Forests are being leveled and paved over to make way for cities and homes. Trees, which produce oxygen, are cut down. Soil is paved over causing it to suffocate. Rivers are being polluted in as well by waste from corporations and boats that might be on the water.Animals that once lived there are driven out of their habitat.
