Principal Kionna's Weekly Word
Dear Trix Families,
We Love Your Scholars and We Need Them Here Everyday!
I believe that Trix Academy has the best teachers on earth! Everyday they provide a first-class academic experience through engaging instructional practices. I also believe that we have the best scholars on earth! In order for us to collaboratively work toward academic excellence, scholars must be in attendance on an everyday basis. Last week on count day we had a record high attendance of 96% attendance. However, on most days we only have an attendance average of 86%, which is an average of 30-40 scholars missing each day.
We have a school wide goal of 90% daily attendance. That means we need your help in making that happen. In order for us to improve academic achievement for all scholars, we need all scholars here everyday!
National Bully Prevention Month
October is National Bully Prevention Month. This month Trix will take part in some activities surrounding anti-bullying. Please be on the lookout for some funs school activities to come.
This month's family engagement celebration is the Trix Harvest Fest! The harvest fest will take place the last Thursday of this month. More information to come.
We are so happy to announce that the girl's basketball season starts this week! Their first game in Wednesday, 10/11/2023 at 7p. The game will be held at Plymouth Educations Center, 1460 E Forest Ave, Detroit, MI 48207.
Parents of girl's basketball players are responsible for getting the scholars to and from games. Please have your scholar arrive at least 30 prior to the start of the game so that they have time to warm up.
Please see the full basketball schedule listed below.
After-School Enrichment Program
The after-school enrichment program is now underway! Scholars seem to really be enjoying the enrichment classes.
Soaring Scholar Program Starting this Week!
The Soaring Scholars program is an after school academic enrichment program. Students that are invited to this program will receive additional support to help them excel in both reading and math. This program is also a leadership program, the scholars who are chosen for this program will take part in leadership opportunities within the school throughout the year.
Last week scholars were invited to be a part of the Soaring Scholars program. Those scholars identified received invitational letters. This is an amazing opportunity. If your scholar received a letter, please be sure to sign and return it to your scholar's teacher. The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 pm - 5:15 pm. Scholars will receive a snack prior to their class time. This Tuesday, 10/10/2023 will be the first day of the program for invited scholars.
We Want a PTA!
Trix Academy is looking to start an official PTA this school year, and we need all of you. We would like to have a robust parent group to partner with the school all year long. Are you interested in joining? Would you like to be a part of the founding team? Please complete the survey below and we will be in touch with next steps. Mrs. Dye will be in touch with all parents, guardians and community members who have signed up. The first meeting is coming soon!

Resident Principal's Motivational Moment
Hello parents and community members,
It has been a busy great week here at Trix. We are staying busy and the students are demonstrating they can follow the structure and routine of their day. I am encouraging parents to continue to talk with their child about demonstrating kindness and to respect all of their classmates and teachers. It can be easy to allow emotions to dictate their responses to events that occur in their day. When this happens, the outcomes tend to not be as positive. So, we ask each student to think with discipline (intentional, on-purpose and skillful)

Hello Trix Academy Families,
We are closing in on the end of Quarter One. Please encourage your scholars to complete any missing assignments and keep a strong academic focus. That strong academic focus helps your scholars now and with future opportunities. Also - look for NWEA Awards for scholars that have already met their Growth Goals and highest scores for their grade!

Hello Trix Families,
LiveSchool is our behavior management system that is used to monitor and track scholar behavior, both negative and positive. Scholars can earn prizes, parties and trips for positive behavior. Please look for your parent information to come home this week so that you can access your scholars account. This will allow you to stay on top of your child's behavior. If you have any questions regarding LiveSchool, please contact Ms.Hayes at (313)426-1020.
Ms. Smith's Operational Rundown
Hello Trix Families!
What an exciting and wonderful first be back! We were excited to see all of our old and new faces. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back this week.
Here are a few operational reminders:
Office Hours: Monday- Friday, 8am - 4pm
Scholars may enter the main entrance of the building at 7:45 am each morning. Scholars will enter the building and wait in the lunchroom with the supervision of a Trix Staff member. Breakfast will begin at this time. Our instructional day begins at 8:05. We will have a building wide morning meeting each morning during breakfast, then scholars will move immediately to their classroom instruction starting promptly at 8:20 am.
Dismissal starts at 3:30 pm. Early pick-ups hinder your scholar’s academic progression because they will miss important instruction. Parents are welcome to start pulling up to the Trix Academy Pick-up Sign (In GREEN), located at the corner of Fairmont and Fairport. You will give the name and grade of your scholar to the Trix Staff Members in the front. We will radio the scholar’s name(s) for pick up.
Scholars will be released to the parents in the pick-up line at 3:30 pm. Walkers will be released at 3:35 pm.

New After-school Enrichment Programs
We are excited about the after-school enrichment program this year.
Students participating in the after school programs must have a signed permission letter. If you signed your child up for one of the classes, you should have received a letter to return. If you did not get a chance to sign your scholar up for an enrichment program, there are still a few spots left in a couple of the classes.
Please reach out to Ms. Owens to see what options are left. Here email information is listed at the bottom of this newsletter.
Trix Youth Choir
This year Trix scholars will have an opportunity to sing in a youth choir. Ms. Lynsey has a passion for singing and music, and she has developed a program for interested Trix scholars to take part in our first ever, Trix Youth Choir!
Film Club for Grades 5-8
Ms. Gordon has created a fun way to bridge English Language Arts and the scholars' love for movies. Middle school student (including 5th grade) will have the opportunity to explore film and analyze it using literary devices.
Competitive Chess Club
This year Mr. Orellana's chess club will join a Detroit chess league and compete against chess scholars from around the city of Detroit.
Playing chess is known to increase IQ, promote critical thinking, and teach core math and verbal skills. It also helps kids retain information, improve test scores, solve problems, remain calm under pressure, and perform well in school.
