What's New in Allied Arts?
Art and Design
Tech. Ed.
As we end the 1st trimester, it was great to see all grade-levels excited about engineering and willing to step outside their comfort zone and attempt challenging activities. Our 8th-grade group stepped up and designed and manufactured some of the top cardboard boats I have seen in a few years.
Our 4th graders took the leap and learned to use a scroll saw and hand tools, while 7th graders looked like pros in the shop using miter saws and table saws.I am excited to have a new group of familiar and new faces in trimester two, and I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish in 12 weeks.
S.T.E.A.M.
STEAM Students are completing their trimester projects: some students created design plans for green infrastructure and stormwater management for the Glen Hills Green Schoolyard Project, while others examined the Kletzsch Park Habitat Restoration and Fish Passage Project to look for ways to incorporate their own ideas to enhance the spaces along the Milwaukee River in Kletzsch. Some students had the opportunity to discuss their ideas with project leads and professionals in the field, build models of their designs, and devise ways to incorporate sustainable design into their own community. Other students are designing and building a bioswale in the green schoolyard, while some are designing a Glen Hills Ecosystem Food Web Mural out of student technical drawings. In the upcoming months, some student work will be featured at the North Shore Library. Overall, STEAM students had the opportunity to identify real world challenges/projects and work collaboratively to create solutions using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics
