Dear Families:
Happy Pi Day!
We had a very exciting College and Career Week in class! Many thanks to Lynn (Grant's mom) and Ben (Georgia's dad) from coming to speak to our class about their careers. We also learned about careers in microbiology, floral design, and law! It's never too late, if you would like to share your career path with our class, please let me know!
On Monday, 3/16 we will be creating clay tiles for a school-wide mosaic that will be installed on the large decorative steps that lead to the office. Our allotted time to work with the artist is 9:45-10:40. If you would like to volunteer to help at this time, you are more than welcome! The more helpers we have, the smoother this project will be.
On Tuesday, 3/17 we will be heading to SF to visit the Asian Art Museum. We will have a tour led by docents focusing on Asian New Year celebrations. Please make sure that your student has a lunch from home on Tuesday, we will be eating lunch in San Francisco. We will leaving at 9am and returning to school by 2pm.
Report cards will be coming home this Wednesday, 3/18 in the communication folder.
There are no scheduled parent/teacher conferences for the 2nd trimester, if you would like to meet to discuss your child's progress in school, please let me know and we can arrange a time.
SPELL-A-THON...
The first grade SPELL-A-THON is this Thursday, 3/19. Please help your student study the word list that was sent home on Tuesday. The SPELL-A-THON is a part of Jefferson's school wide service learning project in honor of Cesar Chavez. We are hoping that each student bring in at least one pledge (and they can sponsor themselves--even 10 cents a word!) to help support the Kerman-Floyd School in the Central Valley. Pledge sheets must be turned in on 3/19, they will be returned to students on 3/20 and students will need to bring all money back to school on 3/24.
Our 2nd publishing party will be Thursday, March 26th @ 1pm. Your students have been working really hard on writing amazing non-fiction books and are excited to show off their best work.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at: susannereed@berkeley.net
Thank you,
Susanne Reed
