Concerns of Homeless Encampment and Pitbull Attacked near Montgomery High School.
Montgomery High School has been working with Santa Rosa Police Department and our School Resource Police Officer (SRO) on the homeless encampment for awhile now. Unfortunately, the land is not public land nor school property. We discovered that the open green space belongs to CalTrans, and we have been working with CalTrans for the last few years trying to resolve this issue with the homeless encampment being so near to the high school.
I have shared the new information about the pit bull attacked with Santa Rosa Police Department. I have also reached out to CalTrans, hoping that this will cause some urgency on the part of CalTrans to remove the encampment. At this time, the pitbull is in the custody of Animal Control.
Please share your concerns about the homeless encampment with CalTrans and safety concerns to CalTrans www.dot.ca.gov. Many voices are better than one voice.
District 4-Bay Area/Oakland, (510)-268-4444 or caltrans_d4@dot.ca.gov
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. I will keep you posted if the school received any information on the removal of the encampment.
