Rockwood Summer Academy

The Rockwood Summer Academy enrollment window is open. Students should be looked at as a grade level and not as a class when being recommended. Look at the bottom 25% of students in the grade level when making recommendations, however, there is no hard and fast “cut line.” Students enrolled in the VICC Program do not get an automatic recommendation, however, if a VICC student is recommended, they must be recommended for both sessions due to transportation availability. All recommendations will be made through IC. Recommendations are due on Friday, 2/12.

Kellison Walk Throughs

Thank you to everyone for opening your classrooms to your colleagues for our school-level walk throughs. These will be short, informal visits to your classrooms to see our students learning. Here is a schedule for our February walks:

2/17-1st grade at 1:00;

2/23-3rd grade at 10:30, 2nd grade at 2:00;

2/24-KDG at 12:00;

Specials teachers will learn more about this at our meeting on the 12th.

Placement Day

Mark your calendars for Monday, May 9th. This is the day that we will meet in teams to place students into their classes for 2016-2017. We will have substitutes available who will move through the grade levels throughout the day at the appropriate times. Here is a tentative schedule to plan for:

8:30-First Grade

11:00-Fourth Grade

12:15-Second Grade

1:30-Third Grade

If additional time is needed, we will make alternative arrangements to continue our work.

Prior to this date, placement letters will be sent to our parents. They will have from 4/1-4/15 to return these to us. In addition, our special education team will meet on April 21st to consider placements for our students with special needs. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Fabulous February

Welcome to Fabulous February! February is no longer going to be a long, dreary month. We are spicing things up around here. Here's what you can look forward to next week!

  • Our Super Bowl Prediction Winner will be announced on Monday Morning! Stay tuned!
  • Warm-Up Wednesday - You are welcome to wear your jeans and Kellison spirit wear!
  • Breakfast Surprise on Friday Morning - Stop by the lounge!

Looking forward to the end of the month, we are planning a little competition the last week of February. Send me a picture of your pet and we will see how well our staff can match the animal with their correct owner. Just e-mail them my way!

A Great Reason to Watch the Super Bowl

If you needed a reason to watch the Super Bowl next Sunday, I have one for you! Some of our very own Kellison students may be featured in a promotion to air during halftime in one of the spots for local advertising. KMOV Channel 4 visited us last week, along with Steve Savard, and interviewed 15 of our KDG, 1st, and 2nd graders. They asked them many questions about working hard, being accountable, saying you're sorry, and looking out for others. We are one of five schools they visited, so the final product will feature a combination of all schools. There may be a possibility for this to air later, after the Super Bowl, and feature more of our students. Rockwood is also putting out a video as a teaser before the Super Bowl airs on Sunday on their Facebook page. You may have already seen the quick video about Rockwood's Facebook "likes" featuring our second graders Noah, Wyatt, Moriah, and Audrey. They were awesome! I'm so excited that everyone will get to see Kellison's amazing students!

Relay for Life

Relay for Life is fast approaching! We are working on some fun fundraisers to help Kellison hit the $1,000 goal. More information to come on that soon.

In the mean time, please consider signing up on the Kellison Tiger Team so we can pack the track on Saturday, April 23 at Summit High School!! Registration is free and fast.

Once signed up, you may create your own fundraising page and you may do as much personal fundraising on your own as you like - through friends & family, to help our team hit our $1K goal!
